  • New GMC Sierra

I just purchased a brand new GMC Sierra and noticed several surface scratches on the top bed rail. After revewing the site, I believe I am to use Scratch X 2.0 to remove the scratches? Does this sound correct? In addition, I have not washed the truck and need to get started on the right track. Should I first wash the truck, use the Scratch X for the scratches, use a polish on the entire truck, and then wax? If so, which products should I buy? Thanks for you help.

You can try the scratch x stuff or even use ultimate compound. Are you working by hand? Ultimate Compound might be better for you because it has more cut than scratch x.
    1)Definitely wash the truck first.
2)You may way to clay bar the whole truck since it probably has been sitting in the lot for a while. This will also make the coming steps the most effective.
3)Use Ultimate Compound or your scratch x to get those scratches out.
4)I guess you could polish if you want... Ultimate Polish would be a good choice.
5)Meguiars Ultimate Paste or Liquid wax works well and lasts quite a while.

Also, if you are really going to be into detailing, a D/A polisher will become your best friend, and give you even better results than working by hand. Buy one!

Follow those steps and that will get you on the right track.

By the way, I just noticed this is the introduction section. You may want to try Detailing 101 in order to get more responses.

As ChevyNick pointed out, this subforum is intended to be used for new member introductions only. It might not make sense now, but if you stick around you will understand the methods to our madness and why it is better for everyone to post in the appropriate sections.

So please tell us a bit about yourself or your vehicles here, and then post a new topic with a descriptive title in Detailing 101 and we can get you the help you need there.

        Thanks, and welcome to MOL!
