  • Hey guys..! Going to detail my Aussie Fairlane..!

    Hey guys,
I've had my fairlane for a while now and haven't really detailed the car before.. Also, have never really fully detailed paint before.
I have purchased quite a few of the Meguiars range and am going to be applying it by hand.
I started by washing the car thoroughly with Gold Class wash. I have clayed the whole car with Quik Clay and re-washed to get off any loosened contaminants that the clay hadn't removed.
Now it's up to the Ultimate compound. I am going to go over the whole car twice, using microfibre applicators and towel.
After that I am going to use ultimate polish, with a foam applicator. Again, I may go over the whole car twice, but I will assess with a light after the first application.
Then I will be sealing with Gold Class Carnauba wax, using a foam applicator. I will leave it in the garage for a couple of days after that, the do a light second coat of wax.
What I wanted to know is. Am I on the right track?
All of it will be hand applied.

Here's a pic of my car before the treatment.

    Any advice is appreciated..

    Cheers
    Kris

First off, welcome, and nice car!!

What you are doing sounds like a good plan, however you should not have needed to wash again after claying, thats probably overkill.

For the compound step, i wouldnt use microfiber pads personally, I think foam would work better and leave the finish a bit nicer, just MO. But if you are following with ultimate polish, that would clean up any potential marring from the MF pads. And you would only have to go over the car twice if the first pass did not remove the defects.

Ultimate polish sounds good, although becuase the car is white the difference after polishing may not be noticeable.

Your plan for waxing sounds good too, personally i would go with a sealant like ultimate wax or nxt 2.0 for a white car, as you will not get the darkening effect that gold class has and the sealants are more durable anyway. And you shouldnt have to wait a few days, 24 hours is plenty of time between coats of wax.

That was exactly what I started with. no need to go over the car twice with UC or UP. Take your time and do it once. For UP and uc I would use Sponge pads.If you are doing it by hand after few hrs you will find out it will take you LONG time to get it done.

Hi Kris, fellow Aussie here. Since you're doing the detail by hand on your very big Fairlane, you are gonna be absolutely shot by the end of it, lol. I think your plan is a little too elaborate, but that's perfectly ok. Over time you'll learn to be more efficient with the detailing process, which itself is a learning experience. Post pics once you're done!

Yeah, dont go over the whole car twice with UC. That sounds like (and probably will turn out like) you are just wiping the UC around. It actually needs worked in to the surface to remove swirls/defects, etc.

So you might do two applications, but you want to pick a 1-2 foot square, and work in two applications into that area.
