  • Finally a Member!

    Hello All,

I've been a lurker on MOL for about six years. As of yesterday, I am officially a member! I have to say, a majority of the detailing knowledge that I have accrued over the past several years is owed to all of the insightful and knowledgeable enthusiasts on MOL. For that reason, thank you all!

Since owning my first car, I've always enjoyed the art of detailing; it's my therapy. More recently, I purchased a Black Chevy Cruze (my first black car), which I plan to detail this weekend. I purchased the car new in March, and have washed and waxed her several times since then. However, I have bigger plans this weekend. If all goes well, and the weather holds out, I am planning the following:

    1. Wash with Ultimate Car Wash.
    2. Clay the entire car.
    3. Ultimate Polish.
    4. Ultimate Liquid Wax.

As for the interior, I have various leather and dash treatments that I tend to use. If anyone has any additional steps that I can include, please let me know, I am always open to new things. Hopefully I can post up some before and after pics in the Detailing forum once all is said and done. I look forward to being a member of MOL, and again, thank you all!

    Best,
    Joe D.

      to MOL Joe!

How bad are the swirls in your paint? Ultimate Polish is some pretty mile stuff and if that doesn't work, I would suggest picking up a bottle of Ultimate Compound. After using Ultimate Compound, follow it up with Ultimate Polish since you already have it and it will benefit that black paint a lot. That's my only suggestion.

Please don't forget to post pics of your detailing project! I'm looking forward in seeing your results!

Mistake #1 buying a black car. I know I have one. Once you start detailng black car it's never over. You walk by it or look at it it will show some small scratches. Just getting in the car will scratch it. Wifes purse touches it it will scratch. Put away groceries in the trunk it will scratch the bumper. Good luck Bro! LOL

          Re: Finally a Member!

No swirls yet at all, so I don't think the compound is necessary at this point (give it a few years). I don't regret buying a black car at all, but your right, it sure is a pain to keep it looking good. Though I must say, the shine and depth of a black car that has just been detailed is jaw dropping to me. Having a yellow car a majority of my teenage years, I've always envied the outcome of a good wax job on a black car. As for the wife, I'm sure she would find some way to scratch any color car, so it's inevitable lol. I will be sure to post before and after pics.

Having a black car is a full time job, definitely. However, if you have the time and inclination to detail it and keep it in tip top shape then the black paint job can be truly rewarding.
