Re: A compliment to MOL and all of it's users.
Hi I can relate to your frustration regarding the site here brought down. I'm a IT Manager and Like most IT departments, most of the upgrades are done during off hours if at all possible, most of the time, it will just be a firmware upgrade, software upgrade or hard drive that's needing replaced. Although now a days, they have hot pluggable devices which allow us to replace them without bringing down the server. Every once in a while we would need a whole array needing to be added to the existing one which is more involved. They must have had some extensive work to be done in the case of being down a few days. I can guarantee you though that IT Departments don't want their servers down any more than you do, trust me. It's stressful at times for us too. We also have to deal with issues beyond our control like a T1 or 3 going down from our providers. In that case it's a hurry up and wait situation but they too are going to get you up and running asap. Other times a hub might go bad in which case a group of users will go down. Routers go bad at times etc.., etc...Just be thankful and appreciative for these people that keep these sites maintained. They have a tough job. I've been in it for more than 25yrs and seen it all since I was systems engineer before becoming a manager. All your compliments are Patience to this sites IT personnel will be much appreciated I guarantee you, they want you to be happy. When we received compliments from our people that we support, it really felt good. Other times, people would be flaming mad and although we can understand the frustration, we like to focus on the resolution, rather than spending too much time pointing fingers etc... I like the way this website is set up myself. Thank you to all that help keep this site up and running, including the people that backup the data with incremental and full backups to insure a prompt recovery in the case of a inadvertent event.
