  • Hi From New Jersey

    Hi All,

I have two cars, one I've had for three years, the other I just purchased. The one I have had for 3 years is a 2001 BMW Z3 - it's Topaz Blue Metallic. I have used only Meguiars on the car and it looks great. Twice a year I clay, polish and wax it. It gets several coats of wax along the way too. The color is deep and shines like glass.

My other car is a 2011 Cadillac CTS and it is Black Raven. I would appreciate some advice as to how to care for it. How to minimize swirls, should I clay, polish, wax it? Is there a recommended process. I hope to hear from you as I am anxious to care for the CTS the same way I do my Z3.

    Thanks very much.

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online.

As caring for your new ride here are the tips:

    - wash it and wax it regularly, protection layer is very important,
    - hand wash your vehicle using a two-bucket method and grit guards to minimize the chance of inflicting swirls/ scratches,
    - use good quality car shampoo, towels and wash mitt (all Meguair's car soaps are great, Water Magnet for drying, Supreme Shine to apply and wipe off product, microfiber wash mitt),
    - use maintenance products, Ultimate Quik Detailer and Ultimate Quik Wax, to keep your vehicle in show car shape,
    - use protectants/ cleaners for interior/ exterior parts/ trims, Ultimate Protectant/ Ultimate Black and Quik Interior Detailer work great,
    - clean and condition your leather seats/ parts - Gold Class Leather Cleaner/ Conditioner,
    - when needed perform paint cleaning/ polishing cycle with fresh coat of wax after.

Hey thanks Greg. I appreciate your response and advice. Do you recommend the use of clay on a new car? I may be mistaken but I thought I read something about a clay for new car use? Is the Ultimate Quik Wax enough protection?

      Thanks again.

Yes. Clay a new car. It picked up all kinds of rail dust, brake dust, iron fallout, etc. upon delivery so definitely clay.

Is UQW enough protection? Yes and no. It is enough protection if you want to reapply every 2-3 weeks but not enough protection for a 3-4 times a year waxing.

Always follow Greg's advice. It's spot on!
