    Re: difference between products?

    I tend to look at it like this:

    Full Detail:

    1. Wash - Gold Class soap, etc. 2 buckets, good towels, mitts.
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit
    3. Clean/Polish - This is where the options come in. For mild, general cleaning, a product like SwirlX (more cleaning, some oils) or Ultimate Polish (some cleaning, more oils) would be good. For more defect removal, a product like Ultimate Compound would be used.
    4. Wax - Your choice, something like Nxt 2.0, Gold Class +, Ultimate Wax.
    5. Wax - 2 thin coats are best.

    Quick Detail
    1. Wash - as above
    2. Clay - if needed
    3. Cleaner/Wax or ColorX - these would combine the clean, polish, and wax steps. May not give quite the results of individual steps, but speeds things up a little.
    4. Wax - as above

    6. Maintain - A spray wax like Ultimate Quick Wax is good for after future washes.

    That list of course is using the Consumer Line products. If you had found a shop selling the Pro Line products, you could substitute some things maybe.

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online.

      To help you understand what's going on here's the 5-step car care cycle:

      1. Wash - clean you vehicle to remove dirt/ debris
      Clay - using a clay bar (and lubricant) removes above surface bonded
      contaminants, which car shampoo is not strong enough to successfully
      remove, claying also provides stronger bonding between car paint and
      wax;

      2. Clean - removal of below surface paint defects (oxidation, water
      spots, swirls, scratches), this step prepares surface and it's very
      important task;

      3. Polish (Optional) - high gloss restoration step using products with
      rich polishing oils;

      4. Wax/ Protect - creating a protecting barrier on top of car paint;

      5. Maintain - keeping your vehicle in its best shape between car washes
      and detailing sessions.

      The most popular products for each group:

      1. Car Washes - Ultimate Wash & Wax, Gold Class Shampoo/ Conditioner,
      NxT Car Wash,
      Clay car kit (with Quik Detailer as lubricant) - Smooth Surface Clay Kit;

      2. Paint cleaners/ compounds: M105 Ultra Cut Compound, Ultimate
      Compound, ScratchX 2.0,
      Paint cleaners/ polishes: Ultimate Polish, SwirlX, M205 Ultra Finishing
      Polish, M80 Speed Glaze, M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish;

      3. Pure paint polishes (no cleaners or super mild cleaners): Deep Crystal
      Paint Cleaner, M07 Show Car Glaze, M05 New Car Glaze;

      4. Car waxes: Gold Class Carnauba Plus, NxT Tech Wax 2.0, Ultimate Wax;

      5. Maintenace products: (Ultimate) Quik Detailer, (Ultimate) Quik Wax.

      There are also all in one (AIO) products called cleaner/ waxes. They contain cleaner/ polish and wax: A12 Cleaner Wax, ColorX, M06 Cleaner Wax, M20 Polymer Sealant, M66 Quick Detailer and D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream.

          Re: difference between products?

          After using a paint cleaning product (Ult Comp, or Ult Polish, or others) you would need to re-wax the area, not re-paint.
