  • New enthusiust learning the basics

    Hi everyone,
I'm just getting started with my new hobby; I bought a PC and some pads and plan on using some meguiar's ultimate compound and polish to try and restore my dad's neglected paint. I love reading the boards here, and I kind of wish I could quit my job and just detail for a living

Anyway, look forward to learning and hope to contribute to the discussions.

Welcome. Start getting good with digital pics, uploading them to your Meg's gallery, and putting them in a post. It is easy after a few stumbles. Look at the new micro fiber pad system. I am using it on my '96 4runner. Look at my other posts on the 4runnere after click on my screen name.

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online.

If the vehicle is in need of deep paint cleaning probably it also needs a clay bar after washing.

Ultimate Compound/ Ultimate Polish is a great combo.

Ronnie, I'm a computer geek/amateur photographer so I'll definitely make a picture thread when I make my first attempt at paint correction

Thanks for the advice Greg, I already figured I would need to clay as I'm sure it's never been done and it's parked under a tree all the time... No plastic baggie test needed

Ever tried meg's otc claybar kit? I'm wondering if I should just order the mirror glaze line or try something I can get locally.

          Both clays are fine.

The Mirror Glaze Mild Clay (blue) is a hair stronger, and just have to buy some lube separate. Also comes in one big block, so just break your own piece off. to work with.
