    has anyone ever heard of appling petroleum jelly to your front bumper and mirrors to keep the bugs from sticking in the first place???

    Yes...but that was years (eons) ago. It did work, but the left over was mess to remove.

    As I think this over...you are referring to metal bumpers, right?
