  • Just a hello from Canaduh

    Hello Folks,

I recently decided to look into auto polishing to keep my vehicles looking purdy and found you gentlemen (and ladies I will presume) here at the Meguiar's forum so here I am.

So far after a quick and simple registration process and a browse of the forum it looks like there's a lot of great information and help here.
I was a little worried I might feel guilty posting here since I recently purchased some tools and competition product to get the ball rolling for myself, but then I remembered I do actually have a few small bottles of Meguiar's products sitting in my auto cleaning box so I guess I'm safe.
Free time is tough to come by for myself with work and a couple of other forums I frequent, but I'll do my best to stay in touch here to get some pointers and help with my projects. Who knows,,, I might even be able to offer some useful input here as time goes by.

    Rick...

Hi Rick, and welcome to MOL!

Don't feel guilty about using a competitor's products - we know there's plenty of good stuff on the market and we're even open to discussing them. While we're obviously Meguair's-centric here, we're sure one or two of members have probably used the same things you've got hidden away at the moment!

            Thanks for the welcomes.

I'll have to dig through my box of product to see what I have, but I do know I still have some Meguiar's Plastx and ScratchX. It's been a year or so since I used the products and I honestly can't remember how it worked out for me because I was on a search to find good products and purchased all kinds of stuff within a short period of time. I do know any products I didn't like I simply returned, so the fact I kept those two products tells me I liked them for one reason or another.

I'm a little concerned I'll end up enjoying doing this again. It was about 15 years ago I was doing a lot of polishing a detailing on my vehicles along with a few friends vehicles and I remember really getting into it and feeling very proud of some the project I tackled. I almost took a career 180 to start a small detailing/polishing company. I wasn't in a position to gamble with my income back then, but who knows. If I enjoy it now as much as I did back then I just might consider it again.
I must say I don't remember it costing as much back then to get started as it does these days, but I suppose I may have gone overboard with gearing up recently.

Hopefully I'll find some tricks to keep my back in one piece. I think that's going to be my toughest challenge right now. I'll be looking around tomorrow for a decent adjustable pneumatic seat to hopefully take some stress off the ground work. That might be a good starting post for me in the forum "tips for polishing to avoid breaking your back".

I'm just waiting for some free time to dive in and tackle my '01 Montana as my test vehicle. If all goes well I'll get to my truck which is more critical to me to do a good job.
