Has anyone on this site used the clay kit?

I have a new vehicle ansd was wondering if it is neccessary to use the clay kit? I have been using Meguira's for many years and I like all of tyhe products I have used. I am a little apprehensive a bout the clay kit. Does anyone have anything negative to say about this product?

You will get nothing but excellent results with the clay kit. It is easy to use and you will be amazed at what it picks up off the surface, even on a new vehicle.

I was driving down interstate yesterday and saw a car carrier transport. Apparently it had driven through snow storms, ice, snow, salt or mud and rain storms as the cars were a mess. So unless your car is special (aren't they all?) and didn't travel by boat, train or semi trailer and was hermitically sealed, it probably needs to be clayed.

Even if your car shipped in pristine condition, I would suggest clay-barring the finish. Your goal is to create a smooth surface foundation upon which you'll build the perfect finish. If you clay and find nothing, good, at least you know for sure.

The Meguiar's kit has all you'll need. Use plenty of lubricant and discard the clay if you happen to drop it on the ground.

I am almost to the point that when I am going to put down a coat of wax I will clay the surface to make sure its as clean and pick up any linting or dust left behind from the microfiber.

The megs clay kit is great, I highly recommend it, even for a new or near new car as mentioned previously. Most new vehicles are stored outside in some cases for months at a time, with industrial fallout in most major cities, I'm pretty sure there some form of contaminates stuck on the paint that cannot be removed with reg washing. Claying then waxing will make your vehicle glassy smooth.

Most of these clay kits are pretty mild, so I'm pretty sure you're safe....like others have mentioned...use plenty of detail spray.

Clay is amazing and an important prep step. Just remember lubricity is key.

I also highly recommend claying... besides its so quick and easy it's not worth not doing!

You aren't the first person to be a little apprehensive about claying your car. Heck, our Customer Care Center has fielded calls from people who have purchased the kit, got it home and opened up then called to say something along the lines of "you really expect me to just rub this little piece of play-doh on my paint????". Well, it's certainly not play-doh, modeling clay or any other clay you've come across in a craft or toy store, that's for sure. But it is an incredibly safe and effective way to quickly remove the bonded surface contaminants that make your paint feel rough to the touch. Just don't over think the process - get an area of the paint good and wet with the Quik Detailer supplied as a lubricant and then gently rub the clay over the paint. You don't need a lot of pressure, just enough to keep you from dropping the clay is all. You can even move it pretty quickly over the paint, so it shouldn't take more than about 20 - 30 minutes to do the whole car. If you find it to be a very tedious and tiring process, you're working much, much too hard at it.

i'm getting ready to use the clay on my white car

will it remove little specks of tar and whatever else those little black specks came from?
or should i try bug tar remover first??

also, the way the video demonstrates to use the detailer for lube, i'll be out of detailer before i'm done with the car or shortly after..
is there a substitute for lube ??

Maybe... never hurts to use a little tar remove first. But can always clay a test spot, and see.

Well, short of buying more products, you can use soapy water if needed. However it may break down the clay if you plan to store the clay for a while. So maybe use a small piece of clay if you have to go to soap.

Ditto what every one else has said plus...but sure to clay your windshield too!! You will be amazed how crystal clear it becomes.

The bottle of detailer that comes with the claybar kit will last you several cars worth of claybar use. You'll see when you get started just how much you need and how long it lasts.

Hey all..ok, I am at wits end trying to get a bird dropping stain off a Brilliant Black Dodge Challenger !! Was only on the car for a few hours but on a 94 degree bright sunny day. Anyhoo, upon recommendations, I tried Ulitmate Compound as well as Scratch X...it lightened a lot but is still somewhat visible....is clay my next move or something else...?
