  • Love my car, not so much the paint job

    Hi All,
Kind of new owner of an old alfa romeo spider. The spider has a single stage dark green paint job that actually looks amazingly good except when it gets wet and then it looks like it has very bad disease. The paint absorbs the water and develops spots, in the paint, that can only be removed by polishing. I spent 2 hours today removing, by hand, about 10% of them along with some paint. These are no ordinary water spots, these are milky white beneath the surface blobs. The surface itself remains smooth as glass. At the moment, my car has about hundred of these spots. Very strange and wow does it look awful.

I expect I'll be a frequent visitor here as I deal with this.. condition. More Pics in my post in the Detailing 101 section.

    Have you clayed the car?

Some pics would be very helpful.

      Some PICS here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/5530553...57625276972972

I haven't clayed. The car had a pro detail (with meguires products) in late August. Since then I've been washing w/ NXT car wash & finishing that off with Ultimate Quik wax weekly. Normally the finish looks great! When it's dry out. But these spots develop under the water beads and they only seem to respond to polishing. Today in a panic, I tried some ScratchX which worked (slowly) and by hand it's taking forever. It's also exhausting. I need a better method. And a better preventative since I can't polish my paint every time it rains or soon I'll have no paint left at all
