  • Something of a noob

I have a 17-year old car with black paint. The car has had some rough patches in its life and various parts have been repainted here and there. Somebody attacked her with a bottle of rocks o something so I had to correct her. Turns out I got a kick out of working on her and while I didn't get a 100% correction (paint is pretty thin in some places so I didn't go too aggressive) I definitely want to get better at this.

    Process:
Lake Country pads on a PC7424.
    White pad with Meguiar's UC.
White pad with Meguair's Deep Crystal polsih
Black pad with Meguiar's liquid Carnuba (terrible. won't use it again. ever)

...That's the short version. There was some experimentation along the way but that was about it. I will be trying the NXT 2.0 and Turtle Wax hard shell next time I wax her I think...

    So here are the pics:

Here to learn how to go that last 10%. I think I did a pretty darn good job but I want to go from Good to Awesome.

      Holy Moly

Your car could've been a poster child for how you don't want your car to look after polishing

      She looks fantastic now

Thanks guys. I live in the PacNW so getting a picture in sunlight has been almost impossible. I'm going out today with my girls (Car and Girlfriend) to do a photo shoot. We'll see how it turns out under the harsh light of hydrogen fusion...

Thanks for the praise. I have a LOT to learn still and I'm looking forward to it.

That was damage from a rotary buffer...

Yes... Yes it was. You should see the scuffing on the trim. They didn't tape anything. Nothing. Ugh...

Your car looks fantastic now. Great transformation!

Also, sorry that you were not happy with the Gold Class Wax. May I suggest trying a thinner coat next time? In the picture you posted showing the wax sitting on the paint you can see that the coat is rather thick. To get the best results you really want to put down the thinnest coat you can and then let it sit and dry before wiping it off. A little goes a long way with our waxes

I learned that the hard way with my first time using a Mother Pure Carnauba Liquid Wax (this is when I first started washing my car). That was a beast to remove! I used like a half dollar glob for a 1' X 1' area...................

I did discover that the liquid wax was applied far too thick. It took a LONG time to dry and was a pain in the butt to remove. My dislike for it was based on it being a liquid. I don't think I like the idea of a liquid wax yet. I think I vastly prefer the idea of a paste as it seems easier to control the thickness of the layer.

Sharp eye on your part though and thanks for the input!
What is the difference between the gold class wax and the #26 yellow wax?
