  • Greetings From Powhatan, VA

    Hi Folks-
Big Meguiars fan and private detailer in south central Virginia. I am enjoying what I am learning from you all! I have a first question:
I detailed my 8 month old Jetta TDI a couple of weeks ago. I washed and clayed it and followed up with Tech Wax 2.0..Looking back, I wish I would have pure-polished it for some more depth...can I re-do the job even after a couple of weeks? I though about using swirl X, to break it back down or even a little dawn to strip off the wax and start over? Any thoughts?
Thanks and looking forward to hearing from some folks!

    Welcome, fellow Virginian.

Of course you can go back and "re-do" the job. Detailing is a constant re-doing.

Are you polishing by hand or by dual action polisher?

SwirlX will remove the previously applied NXT and will clean the paint and hopefully enhance the gloss a bit. You could then apply a pure polish, like Deep Crystal Polish or #7 Show Car Glaze, for an additional touch of wetness (though the look is only temporary). I strongly recommend that you purchase foam applicators, which are safer to use on your paint than either microfiber or terry cloth applicators. Also pick up some good quality microfiber towels. (If you already know all of this, my apologies.)

If you have not already done so, read through Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle. You may also find this piece of interest: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen.

    Have fun and good luck!

    Cheers,
    Al

Thank you both so much! As I said I am not a PRO guy, but get alot of requests for my touch on a car. Al, I use a combo of Orbital and Foam applicators with my detailing. Swirl X is a relatively new product for me and I've had good results on some restorations I've done recently.so I will gratefully follow your kind advice.
Al, your opinion once more please..
I usually use Meguiars pure polish,(red bottle) but i actually thought of trying out Meguiars #7 Mirror Glaze (an older but beloved product)? I saw some in Napa the other day..any thoughts?

#7 has lots of fans here on MOL, though I wonder if you will see a difference between it and Deep Crystal Polish. But of course, there's only one way to find out ...
