  • Hello Everyone. Question. Cleaning bug shield

Hello everyone. My name is George. Just joined today so hope I am doing this right.. My question today is how and what could I use to remove the haze from my bug shield and get the shine back I had when it was new. Any and all information would be helpful. Thank you and have a great weekend.

You could use some PlastX and a smooth foam applicator on the top. The underneath will be hard to do unless you take it off.

^ This is what I did with mine and it worked great. I didn't remove it but got the part of the inside where I could reach.

You shouldn't have to do the backside. I've polished out tons of them and have never had to polish the backside. The front is what takes all the abuse. I've had great results with Ultimate compound on a dual action polisher and a 3.5 inch pad. I've used a rotary polisher, too, depending on how bad it is.

Going at it by hand, you'll probably want to use a terry cloth towel or applicator for more bite. Choose a polish or compound based on how bad the bug guard is. Typically, PlastX isn't aggressive enough for the beat up bug guards.

I do them by hand usually.

I usually revive them by hand with UC and a terry cloth followed by PlastX and a foam applicator pad.

Then seal with A12 or M20.

I dont think UC or SwirlX would be a problem really, if you have them on hand.

As previously stated, Ultimate Compounds, Swirl X, or Plast X should all perform pretty well on removing the haze. Just remember to seal it with your preferred wax, such as NXT 2.0 or Gold Class, this way it will protect it from going back to the way it was.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                  I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                  Remove swirls my friends.

                    Good recommendation, Nick.

Thank you everyone. I tried the plasticX and it worked great. Thank you again. My next question is I have running boards they are faded grey now. I cannot use back to black because they are not black. Any suggestions?. Thank you again for the advice. George

Clean them good with some APC or #39, and then dress with Ultimate Protectant or All Season Dressing.
