Alright, I think I'm going to return Hot Rims All Wheel for Hot Rims Aluminum Only. Sounds like Aluminum Only will be easier on my factory aluminum alloy wheels and also easier on the brake components.

After a month's worth of reading & posting, I finally pulled the trigger and washed my own car for the first time in my life - actually it was my wife's 5yr old Lexus. Figure I'd better use her older, silver car as my guinea pig before graduating to the new black Subie.

Before we recently got married, I never really took a close look at her car. After spending some quality time with it this weekend, I realized that this is one abused animal. Paint transfers, tree sap, & bird droppings... oh my! Front bumper feels like sandpaper. Brake dust caked on scuffed up wheels for who knows how long. It took me 3 hours just to wash the exterior & detail the wheels (not even tire shine!) I was wondering why many people do the wheels first (firgured better to use bucket at end for wheels instead of making new bucket again for paint) but now I understand. Wheels took me so long, I had to rinse the car like 8 times so it wouldn't dry before I was finished.

My back was aching, my shirt was soaking (with sweat.) I kept repeating in my head, "frequent car care is easy car care... if I could just do this every other week wouldn't be too bad." At the end, my wife comes outside to check things out and has a surprised look on her face. It wasn't because of the brilliant shine eminating from her chariot. She was surprised that after all that time, I was still working on the first car :/

As I rinsed off my brushes & pads and packed up my gear, I looked back at the silver beauty and a wave of satisfaction came over me. The wonderful satisfaction of a job well done... and then it started to rain.

Have to check the car before marrying the girl......

But as long as it turned out well. Look at rain like a chance to wash your car and get a free rinse.
