classic dash maintenance preserve

i have a 64 caddy with a small crack in the dash, i don't want to make it worse
by putting the wrong dressing on it. so for the time being i just clean with damp rag. but looking for advice on cleaning and dressing my classic dash...

Well, as far as cleaning, how dirty is it?

You can use something like Quick Interior Detailer for mild cleaning, or All Purpose Cleaner for heavier cleaning.

For the dressing, I would look at either the Natural Shine or the Supreme Shine at the moment. Apply it nice and heavy, or maybe even a couple light applications the first time, then come back and wipe off excess after 10 min or so.

Then you can just maintain with light coats every so often.

Since the vehicle is so old and the dash has cracked, you may want to use a product like Meguiar's M4016 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner to gorge the dash with conditioning agents. This is like putting lotion on dry hands. It will condition the dash so it isn't so dry (likely the reason the dash cracked in the first place). Put it on heavy and work it in. Leave it on for a period of time so it can soak in. Wipe off the excess with a damp rag.

Just trying add a helpful question related to this thread.

Why can't small cracks in vinyl be treated like rock chips?
Before conditioning the dash, applying something like touch-up paint of similar color to help mask the color difference. Or drops of touch-up from a metal safety pin. Reapplied after completely drying. Little by little. Then a cleaner conditioner.

Probably bad ideas as stated, but, with the right product and right detailer?

One thing good about being a newb: I get to think out loud. Scary sometimes.

There may be a product to paint vinyl, and if you had a chip/gouge, maybe it would work. But dealing with a crack/split is going to be harder.

As far as the dressing, Meguiars does advertise that all the dressings nourish the surface. Just trying to think of which, if any, does it more.

M40 is going to have more cleaning and conditioning abilitly, than say something like Supreme Shine
