  • Grime Busters Intro

Glad I've found this forum. I am a member of several other pressure washing forums, which encompasses 90% of my business.

Looking forward to learning from you pro's about detailing, specifically RV's. I have a unique niche market here in southern Arizona for RV detailing. I started detailing RV's several years ago, and did almost 400 units last year.

I would appreciate any suggestions or your input on the best way to safely and efficiently remove oxidation from gel coat finishes. Been doing it by hand and not only is it very labor intensive, but the RV surfaces are some massive I find it hard to get a uniform finish by hand.

My thanks and appreciation in advance to the creators of this forum, and to all that offer their expertize.

    :Welcome to MOL

Just a side note, you can't have a hyper-link in your signature yet. You should probably remove it or one of the Admins can do it for you if you want

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

Hi James, and welcome to MOL!

Meguiar's has an extensive line of Marine/RV products specifically designed for use on gel coats. In case you don't know, gel coats tend to be much thicker than automotive clear coats (25 mils average vs 2 mils) and gel coats tend to be much, much harder than automotive paint. Meguiar's Marine/RV compounds, cleaners, polishes and waxes are designed with this unique finish in mind. In fact, we don't recommend using these products on auto paint!

You can learn more about these products by visiting http://www.meguiars.com/estore/product_list.cfm and scrolling down to the "Boat/RV Care" link down the left side navigation bar.

Your life will be a lot easier if you purchase a good dual action polisher too. These tools are extremely easy to learn, are very safe even in the hands of a novice, and will make removal of even heavy oxidation far easier than working by hand. Heck, even just waxing a 40' RV is much less taxing with a D/A buffer than doing so by hand!

Thanks again guys. Sorry once again for the unintentional violation in the "rules".

I look forward to learning from the pro.

Been looking at a Porter Cable 7424. Is this a aggresive enough DA for the large RV's or should I be considering a different model ?

                Thanks again.
