  • Hello from North Central IOWA!!!

Hello everyone, I was referred here by "Kevin Brown" also known as I believe "iamwaxman"

I know I'm going to end up making this long, but I feel you guys should know where my detailing background is/ends and where to help me and pick me up to further educate me on all the correct aspects of detailing, so please stick with me and read through this to help me learn.

Anyway, I just turned 24 on 4/14 and I am totally new to the professional detailing type of stuff. I've always taken care of my vehicles, washed, waxed, clayed, etc etc and they always came out nice. I've been doing this since I'm sure, early teens 12/13, when I first really started getting into vehicles. Up until early 2008, when I first found Autopia, I never knew of any lines of products aside from OTC, Meguiars, Mothers, Eagle 1, Turtle Wax, Armor All, etc etc etc. I also never knew there was such a type of tool as a PC7424, G110, Flex, UDM etc.

Before finding Autopia, and even since then, i've always used a 1BM wash with a lambswool mit, then dried with normal beach/bathing towels. Never really took notice enough to look at or even know what swirl marks were, and to be 100% honest, I have no clue what RIDS, marring, micro marring, or any other type of those terms look like on paint. Ive always tried to find/buy good products as I know cheap products tend to not work as well etc. I even went so far as to buy a 10" random orbital buffer, ya know, the ones at walmart that are like 20 bucks. But yet again, I had no clue there wasnt something better, and I thought I really hit the jackpot when I bought that.

Anyway, I guess from this point, the main products I've used within the last few years are as follows with a little "list" im going to make up as I type this. Products per line will be from past to current

    • Wash soap: Eagle 1 Wet Car Wash and Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash
    • Wheel Cleaner: Meguiars "Hot Rimz" All Wheel Cleaner
    • Tire Cleaner: Westleys Blech-White
    • Clay: Mequiars Quick Detailing Clay (3-4 years old, used 2x)
    • Wax: Meguiars NXT Generation 1.0??
    • Tire Shine: Meguiars Endurance Tire Shine
    • Exterior trim/plastics/moldings: An off product called "Tech 2000" which works Exceptionally well on tonneau covers, black plastic mirrors, bumpers caps etc.
    • Interior: Mequiars Quick Interior Detailer
    • Carpets: Armor All Interior/Uhpolstery Spray
    • Glass: Stoners Invisible Glass

Thats really all I can think of off hand, Wax was all aplied by hand or with my 10" random orbital. However, I feel for what I DIDNT know about the correct way of detailing, my vehicles have come out exeptionally well. Heres a few pictires of my 1983 Chevy C10 that I use for a show truck/weekend cruiser/occasional drag race truck as well as my daily driver 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel.

    1983 Chevy C10:

    2001 Dodge Ram 2500:

Obviously, neither vehicle is perfect, and the Dodge is getting some rust issues around the bottoms of the doors (common problem among northern vehicles(truck originally was from Minnesota)) but I am saving and have already replaced drivers door, which was the worst at a cost of around 1500 bucks, the passenger door is next.

Let me know what you guys think and PLEASE PLEASE give me any suggestions/comments/questions/etc. that you have for me!

    Thanks guys
    C.C.

              to MOL!

Nice trucks! Love the Chevy, the Dodge is a great truck. I did a detail on one and was hoping the owner would give it to me. That diesel is a nice truck. My dad just bought a '98 or '99 and he loves it. Been telling him for years to get a diesel! He drags his boat and camper fishing every weekend on the Oregon Coast.

              See you on the boards!

i wouldnt say a LOT of car shows, im a member of our local car club, River City Street Rods, and theres always car shows @ the small towns around here that have their little "city days" on the weekends to kind of commemorate their city etc, and gives them a reason for a small parade or carnival etc. The last couple years I havent been to many mainly because i have some issues with my truck that need addressed and really make it appear unworthy of being shown.
