  • Bad experience always leads to something good

    Hi everybody.

Couple of month ago I took my car to BMW dealership (BMW of Fairfax) for full detailing.
when it got it back it look great from a distance...BUT... after taking a closer look, I saw that the whole surface of my baby's body was covered in swirls

They didn't remove tar, tree sap and other contaminants before waxing!!!

They didn't do proper job on wheels - it still had that black dust from the brakes in some places. And they put something over it, so I couldn't get it off for at least 2 month.

The half of the rubber and plastic trim were white.

And I had bunch of issues with interior too: carpets were wet, wooden trim had water spots all over it and so forth

I was angry as heck!!!I wanted to beat somebody up there. But you can't fight much in America, lol

On the top of everything I had to pay $400.

I know a lot of people would make them do the whole thing over again. But I figured if they did such a sloppy job the first time, it is not going to be much better after second try.

...if you want a job to be done well, do it yourself.

So last Thursday I did some research on detailing products (I used Zymol before; good stuff but I wanted to try something else) and I found you guys! Great customer reviews, very informative videos and articles, friendly and helpful on-line community... I am sold.

Friday - trip to the store. Full bags of Meguiar's bottles and cans.

It took me 23 hours total to do the job. The best time I've spent with my baby.

I had a problem with #7. I tried it on a small area and it made the color fade. I was told by Meguiare's customer service representative, that #7 is a bit tricky to use in humid conditions. It was humid. He advised me to try #5. Will do.

    Result:

    Body is still in pain

    Neighbors think I am crazy

Jealous wife (Her statement: You love your car more then me!) I assume such thing is common here

And of course my baby shines like never before. She is all protected and safe...

Don't be too hard on me because of misspelled words and sentences that you can't understand, lol - English isn't my first language

I'm glad to hear that the #5 New Car Glaze worked out, and sorry to hear of your overall experience with the dealership. I worked for several years at the BMW/Porsche/Audi shop in Arlington (AV Automotive). BMW makes some pretty amazing cars, and it sounds like yours looks amazing after all your hard work! Would love to see pictures if you had the chance.

            Welcome, reart, to MOL!

I am a Northern Virginia (Arlington) native. I get up there periodically to visit friends.

Yes, my wife also believes that I love my car more than I love her. What can I say? Until I got my Luthien (see avatar), cars were just cars. Then I fell in love. And now I dream of waxes ...

                      Thanks everybody

I moved here about 2 years ago. I spoke a little English before coming to US. Thanks to my wife’s effort and patience it has improved significantly since then. But it still very far from perfect.

My good friend told me once that I will never speak English as well as Americans do. He, also, said that there was no day when he didn't look in the dictionary for some new word that he didn't know. He is a self made man, who came to US around 60 years ago with $15 in his pocket. He has two successful businesses now, and he lets his kids run it.
