  • New Guy, But Not Quite So New..

    Hello All,

Just wanted to take a quick minute to introduce myself. I'm a new member to the forum, but I have been reading on here as a guest for almost a year now, so I feel like I know some of you quite well already, haha. I must say you guys really know your stuff.

I own a 2004 Black Lexus IS 300, and actually worked at the local Lexus dealership as a car wash guy (Wash, Dry, Tire Shine, and Vacuum only) for the last year or so until last week when I decided to move on. I must say after seeing how much of a car enthusiast and attention to detail most of you are, you guys wouldn't even want to know how the service cars at Lexus get treated as far as the car wash goes. It is such a high-volume (60-70 cars a day), we had no choice but to do the cars the way we did them. Absolsutely horrible, it's no wonder why people's paint is in the shape it is in.

Anyway, I absolutely love the few Meguiar's products I have used, and now that I no longer work at Lexus, I have decided after reading everything on here for so long, I will be using nearly 100% products from now on. Look forward to hearing all of your future insight.

Re: New Guy, But Not Quite So New..

    Welcome Lexus Guy04,

I do know all too well what goes on there- when I was 16 my first job was "lot boy" at a local Ford dealership. I used to do my best not to harm the cars, but when you literally have only OLD, DRY, rough SHOP TOWELS, 1 horrible wax, razor blades, and steel wool...things don't turn out so well.

I used to literally go up to the front and talk people out of having us detail their vehicles if they were really nice (Cobras, or 50k+ trucks, etc) because I felt guilty.

Needless to say, I learned not how to detail, but how NOT to detail in my time there.

I'm glad you finally joined, and we look forward to getting to know you better

As always, feel free to post away in Detailing 101 with any questions that may come up as you try your Meguiar's products.

    Regards,

    Mark

hiya and welcome, dealers do some shocking things to cars, and the average car owner assumes its a good job and doing them a favour.

        Hello and welcome to mol.

People need to be educated on the proper way of doing there car. The dealership is not always your best option.
        quality creates its own demand

The only reason some people get lost in thought... is because it is unfamiliar territory for them.

You are exactly right about that Mark, I definitely learned how NOT to detail there. I will never even let my car get washed there ever again when I do take it in to get serviced. The technicians do a great job servicing the cars as most of them are master techs and really know their stuff, but the detail and car wash guys are another story. Thanks fo the reply.
