  • Dazed & Cinfused

Hi everyone! After spending way too many hours online lurking here and elsewhere trying to reach a decision, it's time to seek professional help. I have too much paint surface on three vehicles to spend much more time doing hand application. I've pretty much decided to get a G110, but not too sure where to go from there. My old truck is outside on a farm, fading & scratched. My "new" truck has minor dog scratches, also sits outside in partial shade (tree sap, bird poo) near the Georgia coast , my wife's car is pretty pristine in the garage. I'm not a pro and not planning to sell any of the vehicles, just want to get them (and keep them) bright & shiny. Any help and advice would be appreciated. I don't want to apply for a zero-down loan, if you get my drift...

Well, this would be the most basic set up possible for a full detail:

    1. Wash - Good soap and Grit Guards of course.

    2. Clay - Sounds like all 3 vehicles will want clayed, may need 2 kits or so and some extra Quick Detailer.

    3. Cleaner/Polish - #80 is the go-to product. You will likely want most of that. The older truck may need some #83, or other products, but that can always be worried about later.

    4. Wax - Nxt 2.0 or #21 2.0 would be my choice for waxes.

And then the most basic number of pads would be a case of 6 from ADS:
1 - Cutting pad, 3 Polishing pads, 2 Finishing pads, either the old style or the new washable ones.

And a pack of 6 MF bonets.

You could of course go with a cleaner/wax as well. You could apply something like #151, and then just top it with one coat of wax. Could save you some time, and the threads for #151 do look impressive.

D151 looks very handy too, mine will be here Thursday.

For the farm truck, if you want to keep it simpler and do less steps, you can pick up a bottle of ColorX at just about any auto parts store or a store like Wal-Mart or Target and after washing and claying it will do wonders as a one-step approach.

This is an old thread but it gets the point across....

Thanks, y'all. Lots of good advice. I guess if I'm going to get into detailing I better check my spelling better, should have posted title Dazed & Confused. Is using clay as straightforward as it looks in online videos?

OOps, my bad. Just read about going to Detailing 101 with questions. Thanks for all the help so far, hopefully in the future I can give advice in addition to asking for help.
