  • New member w/ track car

Hi guys I'm from Va Beach and track and race my porsche 996. The black color is hard to maintain. Pls give me some product reccomendations and some detailing pointers. One friend recommends final inspection between runs and races.

Well, here is the standard info for the "full process"

      Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle
      Step 1 Wash
      Step 2 Clean
      Step 3 Polish
      Step 4 Protect
      Step 5 Maintain

In your situation, I would look at the Ford Bronco Makeover thread. Using a good wash, clay every so often, and a cleaner/wax would make the most sense for a race car, maybe topped with a second coat of wax if you wanted. The Nxt 2.0 might be a good choice.

And yes, using a detailing spray in between runs is a great idea if the grime isnt too heavy after 1 run/race. Final Inspection would be a good choice, esp since it is in larger quantities. Then wash properly when you are home.

          Hi Racer6,

          Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Not trying to be hard on you at all as posts like this are made all the time, but could you copy and paste the "questions" part of your post to this forum?

          Detailing 101

Just copy and past them into a new thread. Detailing 101 is a general forum for questions where this forum is primarily just for making introduction posts to introduce yourself to the community.

If we start answering questions in this forum then it becomes a a Detailing 101 forum.

          Make sense?

          Thanks!

          p.s.

Probably a good one-step product for what you're trying to do would be our Consumer Line Cleaner/Wax as it will clean, polish and protect in one application and will actually create a nice clear glossy finish.

Just don't get it on any black plastic or rubber trim as it does dry white.

Because it's a mild cleaner/wax it should be pretty effective at removing any oil or other fluid stains as well as any marring from cones and such.

Final Inspection is a quick detailer and you can use this or any of our quick detailers for removing light dust but it's not going to create a show car finish on a black car that's not already in great condition to start with.

Are you going to be applying product in full sun? Or do you have some kind of canopy the car will be under? If the answer is full sun then be mindful that black paint can easily hit temperatures of 160 degrees and above and if you HAVE to apply any product to a finish this hot you're going to run into spreading and wipe-off problems.

The most you can do is to work very small sections at a time.

Quik Detailer might be a good general purpose mist & wipe product for track days.

          p.p.s.

          From this thread...

It was a beautiful sunny day at Meguiar's Garage! Check out the temperature differences for the different colors of paint sitting in full sun, especially the difference between the temperature on a white car as compared to a black car.

          White car - 110 degrees

          Silver Metallic - 129 degrees

          Green Metallic - 165 degrees

          Silver Metallic - 154 degrees

          Black - 168 degrees
