Re: running blind with most products
Well first welcome to Meguiar's Online and when you get your vehicle first you are going to want to inspect the paint and you will be looking for light swirls and scratches and also run your hand over the surface of the car and it should feel like glass after a good wash. If it feels more like sand paper or you can still feel light particles on the paint surface then this is a sign that you will need to clay the car to remove bonded contaminants with a product like Megs Smooth Surface Clay kit. If you have found that there are a few light scratches and swirls you would like to get rid of then you will be needing a product like ScratchX if working by hand and if the entire car needs to be done then i will suggest investing in a DA polisher like Megs G110 as it will save lots of time and be well worth the money in the long run. If you do decide to go that route than you will want to get plenty of both the W8006 foam polishing pads and the W9006 finishing pads along with something like #80 Speed Glaze that is an all around good product to always have on hand and maybe even some #83 as it might be needed for harder paint. So to get the car perfect your initial process will look something like this
1. Wash - Make sure to use a good quality soap like megs Gold Class car wash as it offers a perfect mixture of lubricity and cleaning ability and leaves behind a great shine.
2. Clay - You can use a Product like the Smooth Surface Clay Kit that comes with everything needed to clay the vehicle including the Quick Detailer for the clay lubricant and a Supreme micro fiber
3. Clean - Depending on the condition of the paint this may or may not be necessary like the claying process but if you do find light oxidation, swirls, scratches or any other below surface defects then this is a necessary step. Depending on the severity of the defect you will need something like DC1 Paint Cleaner which is good for a very light cleaning but it is a chemical cleaner so its only able to remove very light swirls and other defects. If the defects are more severe then you will need to look into ScratchX or maybe even machine polishing.
4. Polishing - This is also a optional step but i highly recommend using a good pure polish only because it does replenish lost oils and help bring out that deep wet look. I would recommend either DC 2 polish, #7 Show Car Glaze or #81 Hand Polish
5. Waxing - This will be an important and needed step to protect the paint from the harsh environment we drive in today. You will want to invest in a good quality wax like Megs NXT Gen 2.0 and to insure good even coverage apply 2 coats waiting about 6 to 12 hours between applications if you can but its not a must.
Finally you will want to remember to maintain which will include a good product like Megs Ultimate Quick Detailer which will remove light dust and finger prints as well as restore that just waxed look. It will also offer its Hydrophobic Polymer Protection which will bead water like crazy helping to maintain the wax. You can use that or a Good Spray wax which will be used after every other wash to restore that just waxed look and add a little extra wax protection that may be lost through time and washes. But most people prefer the UQD
Ok i know i just kind of threw all that out there at you at once but i hope it helps and i hope you can understand it
Oh i almost forgot for the leather i have always like Megs Gold Class Leather Cleaner and Conditioner and some APC if heavier cleaning is necessary""Some of us will do our jobs well and some will not, but we will be judged by only one thing - the result." - Vince Lombardi

This is great info, but it should be posted in Detailing 101 and that way it doesn't turn the "Introduce Yourself" into a "how-to" forum.
Make sense?
That's why I posted my above post and often times post something similar to this forum. The goal is to introduce yourself if you new and then take your questions to the appropriate forum and if you don't know the right forum the post them in Detailing 101
There's plenty of forums to choose from but this one is for introductions, not detailed how to information. It's hard to actually avoid posting answers to questions, I'm guilty of that myself, thus the "Focused Attention" to the forum category we see when a something is posted.
It would be easier to just answer questions here instead of teach new people where to post them but it doesn't make sense to combine this forum with Detailing 101. They each have their own purpose.
It's Friday!

I've had to make myself look to see what forum something is posted in first, and then either move the thread or answer the questions.
In the case of introductions, you can't move the thread so you politely ask the OP, (Original Poster), to copy and paste their questions to the Detailing 101 forum.
It's no super big deal, just trying to look at the bigger picture and into the future.... (keeping content in the right place over time)
