  • Hello from Northern Michigan

Been looking on line for quite a while and learned alot from just reading. Now, I created a profile I can ask the questions I have written down. My frist vehicle to attack is my work truck. Its a 2006 Ford F350 Powerstroke. Its been waxed a few times in the past, but it has 145,459 miles on it and its run hard from sun up till sun down. The body is in great shape, just alot of rust spots on the paint and real rought feeling to the paint.

I currently have #80,#83, pads for both, ScratchX, Clay kit, G100, NXT 2.0. I have another order in process but I think Im all set to start on this truck before moving on to my personal vehicles.

    Welcome to the MOL forums!

Massive front bumper on that truck!

Start with washing really well, and then claying really well, sounds like you're going to do a really good job of claying the bonded contaminants off the paint on this truck.

After that since this is daily driver work truck you might want to just focus on restoring the shine, gloss and clarity but not try to remove all the swirls.

What kind of machine do you have that you're planning on using with your buffing pads? DA Polisher or Rotary Buffer?

For this you could either do a one-step approach or a two-step approach,

One-Step would be to get some ColorX and apply this using the W-8006

Two-Step approach would be to use M80 Speed Glaze and then apply NXT Tech Wax.

Looking forward to the "after" pictures, should look pretty dramatic.

I have the G100. I will use the one step approach on this since it is a daily driver. Using colorX should I apply with 8006 speed 5 work it in real well, then removed excess on surface?

        Exactly.

Work a small section at at time, about 16" to 20" square, you don't want to tackle to large an area when one of the things you're trying to do is clean the paint, i.e. remove oxidation, stains, etchings, swirls etc.

Also, because this is a one-step approach you want to let the wax dry before removing, so don't buff to a dry buff, leave a wet film behind after working an area and let this film dry and then remove.

        Might give this a read-through....

              Re: Hello from Northern Michigan

I picked up a bottle of colorx tonight. I plan on starting on this in the morning, since I got some of the truck clayed. My question is by using colorx and this truck being a daily driver averaging 1200-1600 miles on a good week since tax season is over, how often should this vehicle be waxed to keep the rust spots from returning? Also would be using NXT 2.0 after the initial colorx be a better option or would a cleaner/wax be faster and easier with the benefits of a cleaner. I dont expect this truck to be in show car condition but I would like it to look nice and last. The rest of the trucks in the fleet look rough and 27 out of 35 are 2005 and newer.

              Thanks,
              Nick
