  • Don't get up, it's just me.......Greetings from Green Bay

Hello, my name is Erik and I'm an alcohol.......wait, wrong room.

Past few years I've been using the Mequiar's consumer line, step 1, 2, and 3 with good results. Quick detailer in between.

It's time I move up to an orbiter, comparing the Meguiar's, Griots, PC, Ultimate....etc.. Since we are still fighting snow in Green Bay, I have some research to do before trying one.

Two years ago I did pick up one of those cheap-o duel handle polishers from the local auto parts store. Thinking I needed some "new" products to go with the polisher, I picked up Meguiar's #2 and #7.....reading around the forum it looks like the #2 shouldn't be used with the polisher or D/A. Good thing I didn't do any damage.

Anyway, I have four black cars and one dark brown, all with original paint and no clear coat, to care for (plus other miscellaneous lighter colored cars). The swirl marks are getting annoying, reason why I'm looking into the D/A polisher.

So please bear with me as I ask a lot of n00b questions about using a D/A and what products I should buy.

Thank you for reading, see you around the forums!

P.S. please, enough about Brett Favre. I live two blocks from Lambeau Field, need a break.....

This place is frustrating. Everytime I come up with a new topic to ask about, I do a search and find a dozen threads to read through!!

I cannot wait to try everything I'm learning about. I'll start with the black Scirocco in the garage before going anywhere near the 355GTS.

Cool, we have have a buffer party (that doesn't sround quite right...)
How many more people do we need for a detailing class up here?

I'm trying to put together my first order to go along with a G100. This is confusing... I'm probably going with one of the kits Auto Detailing Solutions has with the D/A.

Just to add, #2 can be used with a PC if it is the new formula.

Cool! My garage is always open. Just PM me if you need any help.

I went with the base kit from ADS and added stuff separately. Your basic set up should be some #80 & #83 and a few W8006 pads. You can also get a few W9006 pads if you want to apply wax with the PC. One W7006 to use under a microfiber bonnet for removing wax, never use this pad directly on the paint with a PC. That should work for 99% of paint correction. Then just pick the LSP and what ever else you will need, ie, trim products, wheel cleaners, tire dressing, etc.

Also there is a Sherwin Williams Automotive store next to Circuit City on Oneida that carries most of the Mirror Glaze line.

Bottle says "rotary only" so I'm guessing it's the old stuff.

Will do!! Actually what got me fired up about buying a D/A is prepping a 928 for my friend before he picks it up in a few weeks. Next weekend I'm helping install a supercharger on this car at a friends house (2-post lift, heated garage etc...) I want this car to be perfect when he arrives.

I was all ready to pick up #80 & #83, the ADS swirl kit comes with #2 & #9. Kit #4 has #83.

Cool, I was wondering where to find the "good stuff" Friend of mine works there....need to make a call

These older Porsche's do not have clear coats, so I'm doing some extra research to make sure I'm buying the right products.
