Hey all, been lurking for about a month but I finally registered. Got a new paint job and with it came a concern for maintaining that fresh new finish. Thus, my love (read obsession) for detailing was born. Looking forward to learning a lot. Already got a slew of chemicals, and I have a G100 on the way.

The car painted was my DD, a 1995 Nissan Altima 5spd. My good friend decided to cut his turn short a bit when backing out of a parking spot next to me in his suburban, and his bumper scraped across my driver's side rear door and bent up the quarter panel. To alleviate the issue of insurance prices, they just agreed to pay out of pocket, of which I had a quote of $749 from a reputable body shop. The paint had horrible oxidation and scratches galore, and at the time I had no knowledge of paint care and detailing. (I bought it used). I got with my dad and together we knocked out the dents, sanded a few places down, applied putty, and primed, all for about $30 and a Saturday. Then we took that insurance money and put it towards a repaint, of which that car was painted Arctic Blue from '06 Acuras. The car was painted about 2 months ago, and I've done my best to maintain it, but a couple weeks back I noticed some swirls. The only thing I can assume is that these swirls are from the body shop- they're too uniform to be from my drying.

        Welcome to MOL
        Car looks great!

I agree with Mike, let the paint out gas for a couple of months and then you can do whatever you like

Welcome to mol. Your car looks good. I agree with the others in regard to waiting for the paint to outgas before you do something to it. Good luck.

The car was painted and was received back from the body shop on December 13, 2007. How much time should I allow. January 14-15 was when I washed and did the first wax on it, I waited a month.
