  • Noob from PA

    Hi Everybody,

Im new here. I googled " swirls in new car " and your site came up.
I just took delivery on a 08 Nissan Armada. Looks like it was washed ( or dried ) with sandpaper. The truck is a metallic black. My first black car. I think I made a mistake with the color. I've been back to dealer where I purchased. They say its normal ( although they offered me a free hand wax. I did that already with no luck ) . I dont buy it so I went to another dealer to compare. Same swirls ( or spider webbing ). Is it the paint? I cant imagine that prepping a new vehicle could possibly create this much swirlage everywhere so soon. I am totally disgusted by this and seriously losing sleep. I just need to know if I should learn to live with it ..

    THanks,
    David

      Re: Noob from PA

      Hi David,

Sorry to say but modern clear coats are very scratch-sensitive and as long as this car is a daily driver you're going to have problems with swirls and scratches. Because it's black it's going to show them easier to your eyes than any other color.

To prevent them you're going to have to take ownership of the washing process and always use the best car wash and wash mitts as well as drying towels to wash the car.

Taking he car to a car wash, even if it's a 100% hand car wash is a recipe for swirls and scratches because there's no way the people you're paying to wash your car will ever be as careful as you will be.

Many of the members on this forum are what we call car crazy and will take over the detailing process besides the car washing process and go as far as to buy a dual action polisher and all the products necessary to detailing their own car and maintain a swirl free finish.

If this doesn't describe you then the next best thing to do is to either find and hire competent people to wash and detail your car or keep your paint maintained using our new NXT Tech Wax 2.0 which does a remarkable job of eliminating light swirls and scratches so your paint will always look great.

Thanks for your responses ! Would anybody be able to recommend a detail shop in the Phila, PA area. I wouldn't trust myself just yet. I do however do my own washing because I know that I will do it better than the carwash. ( hand car wash of course. )

My wife and I just had a baby girl 8 weeks ago. We also have a 4 yr old. I wish I had the time to do my own detailing. Washes are hard enough ( timewise )
I asked for the reccomendations only due to time issues with my growing family.

Be sure to read over that link for the Bronco II... That topped wit hthe Nxt 2.0 Mike showed might be the quickest and most cost effective thing for the moment if you end up doing a detail yourself by hand.

Hopefully someone will know about the Phili area.

I guess you can go look around at detailing businesses in your area and inspect the finish products on a sunny day and see if their work meet your satisfaction.... if they do then give it a try....

DavidW - Same exact thing happened with my car, an 08 Infiniti G35 in black with the dealer installed mandatory cobwebs. First black car and it always has something that could be detailed. Unfortunately, I'm addicted to detailing it now to maintain that gloss and shine. It definitely gets easier after you have a system down. After your first full detail, keeping it up is much easier. Good luck!
