Hello Everyone!
Hi everyone, although this is my first post here I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone that has contributed the great advice, and an especially big thank you to Mike Phillips for his excellent How To articles.
I have been using Meguiars products by hand for years and although I have had a rotary buffer for some time I was never brave enough to take it to my P1 (a limited edition Subaru Impreza). The P1 suffered from some terrible swirls and scratches that dulled the finish, spoiling the reflections and they were really obvious under sun and electric light. But armed with the excellent information found here, a UDM, some #80, #83 and NXT Tech Wax I’m pleased to say the P1 is looking amazing!
Although this was my first time with a dual action polisher I have come to the conclusion that the paint is hard. On my test area I tried a few applications of #80 (small work area, slow passes, cleaning the pad between applications) and although the finish improved the deeper scratches and swirling remained. I stepped up to #83 with a polishing pad and then I started to see some great results. It was slow work and each small section took a couple of applications, then after the #83 I went over each section again with #80, finally finishing with a light coat of NXT Tech Wax.
The difference is incredible, the car looks easily a few shades deeper blue and finally has a clear deep shine to the paint. One person even commented that it looks like I have varnished it!
Here are some before (just after washing) and after pictures (the next day, it was gone 2am when I finished!), unfortunately taken in different places and at different times of day, but you get the idea. Hopefully we’ll get some sun soon and I can take some better pictures.

In the after pictures the wheels and brake calipers have been waxed and the tyres dressed with the purple endurence tyre dressing.
Thanks for reading,
Ben
