  • new to forum,,,whats up everyone?

hello car fanatics and dedicated detailers..my name is tommy,,i own and operate a small detailing business in so. orange county..finally decided to join the forum and swap stories/info...i actually want to talk about a new service ive added to my list. maybe i should post elsewhere,,but hey,,im still learnin, forgive me...i recently purchased a makita bo6040,,which is a da/rotary machine...ive come across soo many dark colored cars,,black especially,,that have towel scratches and swirls...i was pointed in the da direction from a guy who does show cars(danny and guidas detailing) danny quon. he told me its a good machine to start on,eventhough i noticed its got way more rpms than i need at the moment.was wondering what process i can use w/ it to REMOVE scratches and swirls...can that be achieved with a da? if anyone would be kind enough to give me a little more info on processes that will help me out,,id appreciate it...im sure this has been posted and talked about to death so maybe theres a link?:
thanks you guys ,,look forward to talking to you all.....~~~tommy

        WELCOME TO MOL!!!

Well, for starters you can achieve far better results with the rotary than with the PC. Unforunately though, your last step is your DA polisher. the rotary just can't get that smooth finish like the DA. it will remove swirls at a much greater rate and those that are much deeper that the DA can't handle.

its to bad that you can't finish with a rotary because it can produce a real deep shine but can also leave behind swirls/scuffs that have to be addressed with the DA.

with paints that are so scratch senesitive you have to be really careful. being very good in the prep stage helps alot and setting up a test spot will save you tons of time.

perhaps you could try out M66 for those scratch sensitive cars as that is the most aggressive cleaner wax and works really well.

        wash
        clay
        m80
        m66
        Wax

            sure thing.

            pads.

For starters this is a good starting point.

            1 - 7006
            3 - 8006
            2 - 9006

To remove wax, you'll need a W7006 (Purple) pad, and 1 (2pk) of X4003 MF bonnets. you place the bonnet over the pad, and remove the wax, in the same manner you put it on. ***Warning Never use the purple pad on your finish by itself. It will marr your finish, and the G100 will not take those marks out.

The pads by itself are not designed to be used to remove wax. Since the polish or paint cleaners lubricate the pad, I would think if they were dry (since that's how you would use it) would marr the finish. Not recommended!

If you can't get the purple pad and bonnet, you'll get just as good results if you used a high quality MF towel and remove by hand. Don't get to caught up on the bonnet thing. Use what you have (your hands and a MF towel). They work just as good. You can always pick that stuff up later, and it's not necessary.

As for the pads they don't change with color of the vehicle.

Purple Pad #7006 - This is only used to remove wax with a bonnet as I described.
            Yellow Pad #W8006 - For paint cleaners and cleaner/polishes #80 #83 #9
Tan Pad #W9006 - For Polishes, and waxes. #3 #7 GC Wax NXT Wax

Polishes and Paint Cleaners need to be removed right after you spread it on. Polishes and Paint Cleaner don't need to dry like wax to remove, and it's best if you remove them quickly. Once they dry, they are a pain in the butt to remove. Most remove them by hand, and only the bonnet and the purple pad with wax.

            hope that helps.

Out your way you can probably find a lot of boats to practice on-- below the waterline with that new rotary.
