  • Wax For Laquer Paint

    Good Morning -

I own an original 1978 Trans Am with the original laquer paint. It is G.M. color code 75 Mayan Red.
I am afraid to put any wax on it because the paint is so thin you can see the primer on top of the fenders and quarter panels in direct sunlight.
I did try and wax it in the summer of 03 with a Carbana wax and took way to much paint off the car.
It all came off on my rag.
I do plan on repainting the car some day, but I want to have the car judged as a "survivor" in the summer of 08.
I do use Meguiar's "Wipe and Mist" to keep it clean and it works great.
Is there any kind of wax that Meguiar's makes for this paint and condition or should I just leave it alone.
The car is in the garage most of the time and usally does not get wet.

    Thank you,

    George

    Hi George,

Pick up a bottle of M26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax and apply a thin coat using a clean, soft foam applicator pad. Allow the wax to fully dry before removing and when you do remove it use a clean, soft microfiber polishing cloth.

M26 is a pure wax which means there are no cleaners in it, however just the act of rubbing any kind of liquid product onto this type of paint is likely to cause a little paint transfer because of the combination of mechanical actions taking place in the process, i.e. the pad being pushed over the surface with a creamy liquid using force, (even gentle and light force is more force than nothing at all) over even a minimal amount of time.

M26 should help to bring out the rich color of your car's paint while adding gloss and a deep wet shine.

    Now how about a picture?

      Good Morning Mike -

I really appreciate the information. What type of store sell this type of wax? I am not familiar with it. Does Meguiar's make this type of wax? How often should I apply this type of wax? I live in the Detroit area. I only drive the car about six months out of the year and put about 2000 miles on it annually. I will work on sending you a picture.

      Thanks, George
