  • Hi, Everyone!

Good afternoon, everyone..........my name is Ray. I'm new to this whole Forum "thing". Please forgive me if I make mistakes; Been a computer user for many years, but never really got into the "community" forum thing........kind of a loner, I am. However, I must say, I have been looking at the Megs online forums now for some time, and I must say "thanks Meguiar's," for this fine site. I have already learned much from all the kind folks who visit here. I'm from Southern New Hampshire.

I am at that awkward age.....too old to be young, too young to be old (54). Love claying, polishing and waxing my little "duece coupe"........a 2006 Acura RSX Type S (Milano Red). She's my daily driver. I use the following procedure: I wash with Megs crystal car wash, dry with a Megs WW towel, then I clay the whole vehicle (amazing how smooth it becomes after you clay it!). I then clean the bad areas (front, mostly) with Scratch-X, then I polish with #7 Show Car Glaze, and finish with #26 Hi-Tech Wax. Comes out really nice. (IMHO)

If I may.......a BIG thanks to Mike Phillips for giving so much of your time to this site, your great patience with the many questions. I recently purchased your DVD (How to use the PC for showcar results); it is so great.......I went out and purchased a PC and some Meg's pads and #80 Speed Glaze, but my wife will not let me have it 'til Christmas.....D'Oh!!!!!! So, I'm using the "by hand" techniques you show on the DVD for now. My ride has the "DIS" option, like so many other new cars. I'm using Scratch X and No 7 for now........can't wait to try #80 and that PC.........(hey, maybe I can sneak it out of the Xmas wrap, try it out, and re-wrap it........hmmmmm.)

Finally, my one question to Mike (or anyone who would like to respond): How often can I use the PC and Speed Glaze 80 on my car? I would guess it would be okay to use #80 just when I see a lot of swirls, yes??

There are some truly beautiful vehicles on here - I hope to get some pics of mine soon, and will try to figure out how to post them.

Sorry for this long post.........I hope I am in the right place.......please correct me if I'm not........thanks so much, everyone!!

    Ray (Blackbird)

        Hi Ray,

Welcome to the online world of discussion forums, pretty cool huh?

Since the Internet went public around 1994, discussion forums using software like vBulletin have evolved to become the method in which like-minded people come together to form online communities usually surrounding a topic of their similar interest.

As to your question re: M80 Speed Glaze; M80 is actually a light to mild cleaner polish when compared to M83, (aggressive cleaner/polish), and M82 or M09, (very light cleaner/polishes.

For the majority of people and for the majority of cars on the road, assuming some detailer at the dealership or at a detail shop hasn't machine buffed your car's paint with some archaic and overly aggressive product, removing too much of your precious clear coat film-build, you should be able to safely use M80 as needed. The bigger picture is to learn how to wash and dry our car without instilling swirls and scratches to the best of your ability so that you don't need to machine clean the finish very often.

Once you have your car's paint to the level of beauty you seek and expect, then it's just a matter of,

"Find something you like and use it often"

In this case, wash and dry the car and then quickly apply a fresh coat of a wax of your choice and your car will always look like it's brand new.

            Re: Thanks, Mike and Kellyinkc

Thanks, "guys".......man, this is just the best.......being able to ask questions of people with soooooo much experience and expertise!!! I am in heaven!!!!

P.S. - my "handle" comes from my olllllld days way back when I was (cough, cough) adjusting software so that folks could make backups of Apple games. The Blackbird was, of course, a "stealth" plane.....snooping, so to speak. As was I........but, that was long long ago in a galaxy far away!

            Thanks again!

Hi, again, Mike........question.......(hope it's okay here)......
Could you post the link to a page you had created that specified what speeds to use the PC with the different Meguiar's products?

              Thanks!

                Here you go...

Product, Pad and Speed settings for the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher

                Simply put,
                • Speed Setting 5.0 for removing defects (M83 or M80).
                • Speed Setting 3.0 for applying wax.
                • Speed Setting 5.0 for removing dried wax with a microfiber bonnet over a clean foam cutting pad.

                Hope this helps...
