  • I need some help??

My name is Valery and I am trying to help out a friend.

    This is his question??

Approximately 28 years ago, a couple of men from Florida built a diesel engine out of spare parts one of the men had in his garage. He put it in something like a Chevrolet Vega or Ford Mustang (or something similar to that)

He and his friend then drove to Washington DC and got 84 miles per gallon. He could not get a patton on the engine because he really didn't create anything, he used a marine engine and the parts he used were scavenged and bought in the store.

The guy is probably dead now. I had never heard of him but he use to race and build race cars for the old timers. This was in the old Days when people like AJ Foyt and Parnelle Jones and maybe Johnny Rutherford were in there hay day. I think he actually raced in the 50's and built race cars in the 50's, 60's and seventies.

Anyway, I wish I could find some information on this but I don't know where to start. .....anyone have a clue???

    Thanks, Valery

    Hi Valery,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online

The best thing I can think of is to get as much paper documentation on this person as you can and then start googling that information into www.google.com

Where's this car/engine he built now? Can you post a picture? Does it need to be polished?

    Best of luck to you...

Don't know, but it sounds like a stunt Smokey Yunick would pull.

He was one of racing's most memorable characters, a brilliant innovator, fierce competitor and crusader for safety in the sport (not to mention an infamous rule bender and shameless self promoter).

His race shop was called "Smokey's Best Damn Garage in Town" in Daytona Beach, Florida.

He did quite a bit of experimenting with (and promoting of) compression-ignition engine technology.
