I'm just now noticing that I don't have an "edit" button for my posts. Is that new? Or am I still sleepy and missing something?

Should be on the bottom right of your post. Maybe you need another cup of coffee, then try again!There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane? -

All right, I'm baffled.
Some of my posts now have an edit button ... and others don't. What gives?

This is true. It is the time limit for editing. It's been awhile since I didn't have one but before I became a moderator I seem to remember it disappearing when the time limit for editing was up.
