  • Newbi from Indo with questions...

    Hi all,

Finally I can join in this great forum after a lot of registration failure! NOTE: This is due to my internet connection down here! Hahahahaha

I own a Nighthawk Black Pearl Honda Jazz (Honda Fit in the US), 2005 model and it's a daily-driver car.

In a nutshell, I'm a newbie from Indonesia. I've started detailing my car since 2 months ago, when I met the Megs distributor here in Indonesia.

After a lot of conversations and also some demonstrations, I was convinced to start detailing my car. This is the first time I ever cared enough to detail my car!

    Here's my equipment:

    Washing
    Gold Class Shampoo & Conditioner

    Claying
    Megs Quik Clay System

    Cleaning
    DC 1 Paint Cleaner
    Scratch X

    Polish
    M-07 Show Car Glaze

    Waxing
    M-06 Cleaner Wax
    M-26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax

    Maintaining
    Quik Wax
    Quik Detailer

    ETC
    Gold Class Endurance High Gloss
Gold Class Versa Angle Tire Brush
    Megs Ultimate Wipe
    Megs Supreme Shine Microfiber
    Deep Pile Chenile Wash mitt
    Super Suede Drying Towel
    Water Magnet

Here they only sell an orbital buffer, at ACE Hardware, so I bought the 9 inch model. I also bought two foam bonnets from another brand. Sorry! It's just that Megs don't have any foam bonnets...
I wanted to buy the Metabo rotary buffer but I know im still a greenhorn in detailing business .

So far, I've never clayed and cleaned my car's finish, because it was recently detailed (3 weeks ago) at the Megs Detail Center.

    Anyway, I have some questions:

    1. I'm in need of a one step product that has good cleaning power, because the environment down here is so full of contaminants. Btw, they still sell Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner and Medallion Premium Paint Protection down here ...Of these three (Color X, M-06, Medallion Premium Paint Protection), which one can I use monthly with an orbital buffer and has the best cleaning ability? NOTE: I'm planning on topping any ofe those products with M-26.

    2
. I'm also thinking to buy M-09. In terms of cleaning, how is M-09 compared to the products above?

For the questions above, please remember that I'm only using an orbital buffer with a yellow foam bonnet AND that I will always use M-26 as my LSP. Sorry, can't help it....I'm a Carnauba fan...

    Thank you in advance.

Re: Newbi from Indo with questions...

Well, your list looks good, I'll just focus on your questions....

    1. The big thing is that Medallion isnt a one-step product as far as I know. It might have some cleaners, but isnt meant to do the kind of cleaning ColorX or #6 can. I would probably pick ColorX.

    2. #9 is a very mild cleaner/polish. It will remove swirls better than DC#1, but the new ScratchX will do better by machine to remove swirls. But those products arent polishes like #9, so you would have to use a pure polish after them. So #9 kind of fits in a different niche. Good product though.

      Thanks Murr1525 for the answer!

      For your reply on Q1:
I read the label on Medallion Premium Paint Protection and it said (if I'm not mistaken) that it "cleans, polishes and protects". Hence, I think it still qualifies as an LSP.
Anyway, I'm stil confused on Color X and M-06. You said that Color X has better cleaning than M-06, while on the Megs website it said that M-06 is a "tad more aggressive than any of the cleaner/wax in the consumer line". Based on this, that means M-06 is more aggresive than Color X. Does aggressive means more cleaning power? Or something else? I'm confused here...

      For your reply on Q2:
First of all, we don't have the new Scratch X and I don't know when it will be available here in Indo... (sobbing)...
Second, is it safe to use M-09 monthly?

      Thanks for the fast reply!

Re: Newbi from Indo with questions...

        1. I dont think I can pull up the Medallion labels, so I am kind of going from memory only. Maybe Tim or Mike will have better memory, or a bottle on hand.

But actualy, I am talking about the cleaning abilities of the product. MPPP is definately a LSP, but I am saying it might not have the cleaning/polishing abilities of ColorX and #06.

There is a link somewhere where Mike compares the cleaner/waxes. Lemme see...

        EDIT: Thats not it...
What are the Differences Between Meguiar's Waxes
Says a little in that link...Maybe #6 is a little stronger. #66 is the strongest for sure, but then you might not want to use the strongest product every month.

        2. Yes. You may have seen a lot about people using #80 on here, and people will use that every month, or even more often. #9 is even milder than #80.
