  • Meguiar's outshines the competition at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance

Best of Show Winner and 20 of 27 Best of Class Winners once again choose Meguiar's Car Care Products!

Irvine, Calif. (August 16, 2010) – For more than 100 years, Meguiar's, the leader in surface care, has offered automotive hobbyists the finest products and accessories for attaining a smooth-as-glass surface and stunning show car shine. That legacy continues as once again, at the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance held on August 15, 2010, the majority of the motor cars that were awarded “Best in Class,” as well as the top prize honor of “Best of Show,” achieved their flawless appearances using Meguiar's car care products.

More than 200 of the world’s most flawlessly restored classic cars were subjected to the intense judging that sets the Pebble Beach Concours apart from all other car shows. After the awards ceremony, it was discovered that 20 of the 27 “Best in Class” winners had been detailed inside and out with Meguiar's products. For the last twelve years, 85 percent (255 out of the 300) of vehicles that were judged “Best in Class,” have used Meguiar’s car care products.

“We have helped car guys make their cars perfect at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance for more than a decade,” said Barry Meguiar, president of Meguiar’s. “But we also make our products easy to use for those who simply want to impress their neighbors, family and friends with the sleek coat and shine of their car. We’re proud to do it.”

What is the criteria behind getting credit for using Meg's stuff? I mean do they have to be 100% one brand or can they use some percentage or some specific products (like a polish, LSP)? Do contestants get help during their process from Meg's on how to use the problems?

                  Nobody ever asks....

What specific Meguiar's products were used on this year's Pebble Beach winner?

It's pretty easy to make the generic claim "Meguiar's products were used."

The generic claim could easily be made if Meguiar's handed every entrant a bottle of Quik Detailer, a bottle of Quik Interior Detailer and few microfiber towels.

If you look at my post a couple posts ahead, I also asked about the criteria.

                      You're correct! That's what I get for not sleeping.\

How about it, guys? Which specific Meguiar's products were used on that winning 1933 Delage D8S De Villars Roadster in the big picture at the top of the thread?

(I use Meguiar's almost exclusively, but I find the carefully couched wording of these annual Pebble Beach pronouncements just a bit insulting.)

A bit? No, I really find the language just plain insulting to readers with I.Q.s higher than their shoe sizes. Sorry, Mike.

What? Huh? Ahhhhhh. Parlez vous Francais? Espanol? Deutsch? English????

I thought Mike Pennington of Meguiar's started this thread and it reads like a Meguiar's press release. Just like last year's, and the previous year's....

Are you claiming some organization "out there" just decided to poll Pebble Beach entrants without any connection whatsoever to Meguiar's? Meguiar's did not hire said company to gather data on which entrants use Meguiar's products?

Your answer sounds a lot like Bart Simpson's excuse, "I didn't do it. I wasn't there."

If Meguiar's chooses to issue a press release, and that's what it is, one would hope the company has the facts on hand to back it up. If not, it does sound a bit more like hype and a bit less than fact.

I'll stick with my guess that every entrant received a Meguiar's gift bag with Quik Detailer and a microfiber towel.

Yes, Mike Pennington started this thread - you're shocked that someone else is responding? And yes, it sounds like a press release because that's essentially what it is. That should not be a big surprise either. And also not a big surprise is that we sponsor the event and do, in fact, hand out goodie bags to every entrant. But to assume that small token is enough to effectively sway an opinion or somehow "buy a vote" is just silly. This is the creme de la creme of car shows, as you well, and these people don't play around. Further, we've never stated that our products are used exclusively by any of the class winners and quite frankly we'd be more than surprised if that were the case.

We also don't appreciate the condescending and argumentative tone of your last post. We have no problem with the question, just the way you chose to phrase it, which is very close to violating forum rules.

All I wanted was a clarification of exactly what the Meguiar's press release means.

It's easy to claim Pebble Beach winners use Meguiar's products. I guess it's more difficult to tell which products are actually used.

My previous post had nothing to do with Mr. Stoops posting on a thread started by Mr, Pennington. I only mentioned Mr. Pennington as the author of this thread in response to Mr. Stoops' cryptic post.

Now Stoops writes about "votes." What voting? Your press release is a straightforward claim of winners using Meguiar's products. No mention of voting in the press release. Either winners use Meguiar's products or they do not.

The first post is a company press release. If the company doesn't want to reveal or doesn't know which company products were used to prepare Pebble Beach winners, that's fine. Just say so.

You can call my posts condescending instead of answering the questions.
