Regardless, here's my scenario. I posted in a thread and linked a photo of mine from another forum. The post looked fine upon "previewing". Ten minutes later the pic is only a red "x". Now I would like to go back and edit the post to include a link from Photobucket instead. BUT I CAN'T!!

Adults know how to use an "edit" button. Children abuse it. Nuff said.
We always suggest that people host their images (for free) here on MOL. We've seen too many cases of online image hosting companies either limiting bandwidth, or simply going out of business. Images then turn into little red X's, or generic warning placeholders appear in their place. And this can happen days, weeks or even years later.

Very wise decision. 1 minute was way too short. I don't think you want MOL to be full of typos, repeated words and grammar mistakes. All of us make them from time to tmie.

Fair Compromise. On a side note, Firefox does help you with spelling errors before you make the post.

Continuity of discussion for future visitors. Have you ever read a thread where one person was very active but later came back and deleted everything they ever said? It can make a post extremely difficult to follow, especially when discussing a problem or process. Those posts were part of a conversation, and once you've said something in a conversation it can't be unsaid. No matter how badly you may want to take it back.

Test post to see how long it takes me to be brought back to this page after clicking the "Submit Reply" button.

Even though it is a forum, I personally do not like errors to stay there when I make one.

I recall that this all changed when somebody abused the edit ability and started erasing all their posts.

Another example of one person messing it up for everyone else.

I got caught by this today. My suggestion is just post again..either appending your comments or amending them.

One minute edits only bother grammarians and former English majors. Unfortunately, I am both.

The preview feature is a decent workaround, but often something I wrote looks correct and then just reads funny after I commit it to post. I would like to see a 10 minute edit feature, but understand the reasons behind the current setup.

See that's where my logic side comes in. I mean you can look at what you submit when your typing it, using the preview button an unlimited amount of times and still have a minute to fix any last minute errors. Plenty of opportunities to fix any mistake you make.

The preview button needs to be used more often in my opinion. But then again like I said this isn't a thesis paper or business proposal, its a forum.

And I know you say it's a illusion of having the ability to edit their posts, but really you do so I don't have anything to say more about that.

This isn't directed towards you in any way Mike, just to the forum in general.

Really if you what you wrote is so far off that its not comprehensible, then get it fixed, if you misplace a couple letters here and there I'm sure we can piece it together.

Just my opinions, we have bigger things to worry about in life than how long we get to edit a post.
