  • Colored, smaller Microfibers

I like keeping some smaller microfibers around along with the Larger Meg's Microfiber/Plush Terrys and Water Magnets. I find having some small ones around for various jobs tend to come in handy. For example, maybe I went through a mud puddle and want to run some QD on the body behind the wheel. I like having small Microfibers around for these types of jobs. Also removing one or 2 bugs off the front.

As Meg's does not carry these smaller microfibers, I tend to pick them up locally.

The good thing about these are the fact that they come in numerous colors. I can dedicate a color for say bug & tar remover. Another color to Meg's QD. Another color to NXT Glass cleaner.

By having this color coded system. I minimize the chances of picking up a contaminated rag or a rag with bug & tar remover and try to clean my windows with it. Sometimes I can even get several days uses out of the same rag as I am able to keep track of what product was last used on it and won't cross contaminate it. I can actually wait until the microfiber is dirty enough to wash instead of washing it simply because I used it once.

I have accumulated a very large stockpile of Meg's products over the last couple of months and have become a hard core Meg's loyalist but I do go "OFF BRAND" for the smaller, wash rag, sized microfibers both for their size and the ability to use a color coded system.

This really come in handy for me.

Also, I think Meg's should be selling 5 Gallon buckets of ELBOW GREASE as I use that more than anythong else in my arsenal

what i do is i get a pack of multi colored sharpies. put a little dot on the tag and that's how i figure out what has been used for what. but i usually just stick them in a bag and when it starts to get full wash them.

The first thing I do with any MF is yank the tags off. I have seen somewhere they are no good for the finish.
I see Meg's has the Ultimate Wipes but they appear to all be the same color. I wonder how they would hope up to a laundry dye. Not very well I guess considering the types of cleaners and such we would be exposing them to.

I believe it was Meguiars Mr. Pennington that told me (us) that Meguiars hasn't found a way to color the microfibers that will hold up to their standards.

That is interesting that coloring would make a MF a "lesser?" quality.

No lesser quality of the fibers and its ability to perform well but from fading and looking taddy.

The Duo-Fiber glass towel comes color-coded with blue edging so it won’t get confused with the Super Terry.

Heck, I'll dig out that little strip that gets stuck inside the edging.

Hopefully Mr. Pennigton or Mike will chime in.

I have seen the edging on the Duo-Fiber. Even something like that would help.

Sometime when I pick out a MF to get to work, I wonder to myself, What did I use this for last time and did I wash it well enough

On the edge of towel I use a sharpie to label the edge of the towel. Once labeled the towels are kept in seperate labeled ziplock bags in my MF towel box. Also after washing, the towels are also placed in the bags for storage. I do have different colors towels which are used for specific purpose such as wheel and tire and messy/dirty areas.

I don't mark my towels with what was used as I have amassed enough towels in enough different colors to dedicate a given color to a given task. Even have 2 "extra" colors for future addons.

I use the Ziplocks as well. They work great. I keep 2 towels in a quart size baggie then put 2 of these baggies, for a total of 4 towels, in a gallon ziplock. When I go to load up the supllies I find grabing on baggie of 4 towels is plenty. When doing the detail I pull out 1 quart size baggie and get to work. Pull one clean towel out and the other is left in the baggie. Works well for me. Keeps all my towels nice and clean and also helps me keep a tab on how many towels are in the Dirty Towel basket and when I need to start thinking bout washing them to replenish the supply.

Probably pretty anal considering I am a newbie and am only detailing my ungaraged daily driver. But I like taking good care of the stuff I work with and this helps.
