I think it's a great idea as long as it doesn't add much to the manufacturing cost.
Personally, I just mark the backing plate, but not all people have a white or yellow paint pen to mark the black backing plates and even fewer people will bother.
Having marks on the pads might make some people question their speed and pressure that otherwise wouldn't have.
It'll do lines, dots, and dotted lines.
Plus you can use the "kit" individually, for all sorts of other tasks.
Ot send me your pads and I'll turn 'em into version 3.0's for ya... $3 each + shipping and a handling fee... insurance... extended warranty, road hazard...!!!

I figured I was going to get some replies like that
but anyway... I didnt mean for adding the marks to be the ONLY thing to make "3.0 pads"
whatever other refinements meguiars does.. I'm sure the 2.0 pads wont be the last pads ever right? so those plus adding marks would make a nice 3.0 pad IMO
if it were up to me I'd add 3-4 white marks..that would be plenty clear and enough to see from all angles
