  • How about a dedicated wheel wax

I would like to see a wax or similar product that is dedicated for wheels. I've used all of the other meg's waxes on my painted wheels, but it doesn't really last or help all that much. I have a Volvo that throws a ton of brake dust just driving down the street. It would be nice to see something that minimizes dirt and brake dust from adhering to the wheels (like DP Wheel paste). I wash the car every week, but a product like this would help with the wheels!

The problem that happens is that the break dust comes off the brake disks so hot that, it instantly penetrates the rim. Have you tried some NXT 2.0. It seams in the past it has made my job a tad bit better.

If not I would try using Armor All Wheel Protectant. Look it up it has a sweet video on their website.

The armor all product is what I'm talking about. Why doesn't megs come out with a superior wheel protectant.

Has anyone used the armor all product. I've used NXT in the past and it's definitely better than nothing, but I was looking for something that would perform better.

Collinite 845 would be a good choice. It was designed for electric companies to protect against high voltage failures. I think it can stand up to some hot brake dust.

Honestly, NXT is going to be as good as an dedicated wheel wax out there. Some may beg to differ, but try it for yourself and see.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

          I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.

I use my old NXT wax or Meg's cleaner wax for my wheels. It does a good job.

Flitz makes one with carnauba and beeswax. I was watching the Show Car Garage episode on their wheel restoration kit and I can't remember why he said this special wax was needed but he did give a reason.

I was told carnuba all the way to seal your wheels. My whole car has nxt 2.0 with carnuba on top.

The brake dust on my Bimmer is out of control. I just stopped using my brakes !

Unfortunately, you were told wrong information. Carnauba wax will not last as long as a Polymer wax, such as NXT 2.0, especially on wheels.

I usually use A12 Cleaner Wax to wax wheels.

Well, it's not a wax...but Meguiar's NXT Gerneration Window Cleaner works great to clean/shine chrome wheels and easy to use. Spray on and wipe off with an old towel.

I watched this episode again, and I think it is their metal polish that he said also leaves a hydrophobic wax protection made of beeswax that will last a couple of months. I am pretty sure he said something about that the wheel will tarnish with just a regular automobile wax on it.

Wheels shouldn't tarnish with just regular automobile wax. Carnauba Wax won't hold up to the heat, but synthetics like NXT or m21 should. Most wheels now days are clearcoated so you would treat it the same as your paint, thus applying an automotive wax. Even if they aren't clear coated, regular automotive wax will protect, not harm, other finishes like chrome and polished aluminum.
