  • Clear coat booster

I really think meguiars should come out with a clear coat booster. I am tired of having to worry about running out of clear coat. Instead of removing clear coat to take out scratches, why not fill them in and gain protection and gloss at the same time? I would love to thicken my clear coat.

Well if you find yourself using the PC to remove defects then your doing something wrong. I recently had my car repainted, 100% swirl free. I gave it a car wash still nice and clean. After the second wash I found swirls everywhere. It was my mitt! Find the root of your problem and tackle that.

I totally agree!!! Once you get the 100% Swirl Free, it should stay that way for awhile, note I said awhile, not forever....

I personally dont have any swirls, but i still would like to boost my clear coat. plus you can only use a pc to remove swirls so many times, (you cant keep removing clear coat forever), after that your clear coat is gone. I would defenatly by this product.

It's called a new paint job.

You take your car to a body shop and pay them to prep the surface and spray fresh paint on the car.

You could always lobby your favorite car make to spray more paint onto the car in the first place. That would be the best way to approach the issue.

              Re: Clear coat booster

Meguiars probably sees no need to make a clear coat booster. DuPont, BASF, Glasurit, etc. already make such a product, and it is used by all the automakers.

To some degree, yes. Otherwise you would not be removing the defects. For example, to remove a scratch you have to remove some of the clear coat surrounding the scratch in order to remove it.

New paint jobs are very expensive Mike phillips. I would rather use a clear coat booster. wouldnt you? Ramair, you said "DuPont, BASF, Glasurit, etc. already make such a product" what are they called, i would be interested in buying some.

                          Re: Clear coat booster

There are several products that are out there that claim to be clear coat in a bottle. The only way you will get to use it is if you go to their special booths where there wipe this stuff on. It's not available for consumer purchase, so the only way you can get some is to become an authorized distributor.

If you really really want it, you can google X-Kote. LOL they don't even recommend it for new cars.

FWIW, I am pretty sure any recommended products and techniques on the DA will remove so little clear that it doesn't even matter. I bet you there is someone around here who has been polishing the same clear coat for 10+ years and it's probably still holding up fine.

                          heres some good reading: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4013
Oh yes and one more thing, you CAN fill in CERTAIN defects. If you have some ultra light scratches or swirls NXT tech wax can greatly reduce the look of them. It lasts a pretty long time and it also adds gloss and protection...problem solved!

if you dont believe me watch the tech wax video

Like Mike said, it’s called a new paint job. DuPont and BASF are major paint manufacturers. Glasurit is a BASF product line.

I agree with you that it would be wonderful if there could be some product that you pour out of a bottle and wipe onto your car that would actually built up the top coat. Unfortunately, the reality is that it’s just not possible with existing coating technologies.

All great inventions have to start somewhere; usually it’s with someone’s dream of a better way to do things. Perhaps someday, with a great deal of research and experimentation, it might be possible.
