That's the old formula then. It was at one point "new" and improved... but if something sits around long enough, then that message can get a bit confusing

        Re: NXT 2.0 Shelf Life

How is it determined that products that are not separated are no longer good without experimenting on the vehicle and watching protection?

What about pure products like #16- I have ancient tins who's contents look as good as the ones I have on the shelf that were purchased from the eBay sale last fall. Would the chemical based products have a shorter life than the pure products?

#16 isnt a pure anything... but yeah, I think liquids will go bad before pastes.

Separation is like if you shake the bottle up well, go to pour it, and still have all water come out.

I meant a pure wax-based Carnauba wax, no cleaners or abrasives, or not a chemical based polymer wax like NXT. I don't see how they can not last longer...

For separation, I was wondering though if a product is not separated and still pours fine. I have cleaner wax from the 3-step that is almost 10 years old that I still see pouring ok...

              Re: NXT 2.0 Shelf Life

Paste products, primarily waxes, tend to have very long shelf lives if properly sealed and stored. It's normal to see a bit of cracking on the surface after some time, but unless they are dry and crumbly they should be perfectly fine.

Liquids of higher viscosity - lotion like consistency products such as compounds, polishes, liquid waxes, etc - are sensitive to freezing and prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Unfortunately we sometimes see products freeze during shipping in winter months, but really that's pretty rare. These products also don't do well if stored in the trunk of your car for prolonged periods of time in hot summer climates. Those of you with mobile detail rigs that are often parked with all the doors open during the day will rarely see this as the open vehicle keeps inside temps cooler. When these products are damaged by temperature extremes or spoil with age, one of two things happens - a)they separate into a watery component and a thicker, sometimes lumpy, component that can not be combined by shaking the bottle (if you can re-combine by shaking then you're good to go) or b) they develop a horrible smell that is very obviously not normal for the product. In either case, throw the product away. It is also possible for a product to survive a freeze/thaw cycle, although this may compromise it's long term viability, so that 3 - 5 year shelf life rule may not hold up for it. Some of the older products, like M07, have been known to still be usable many decades after production.

Liquids of lower viscosity - glass cleaners, quick detail sprays, etc - are usually pretty robust and can withstand temperature extremes and age very well. The various ingredients used are all in liquid form of very similar viscosity to start with, so they tend to stay together very well.
