  • Sticky steering wheel

The steering wheel on my 1999 contour became sticky after I swiped it with ultimate protectant. I tried cleaning it with some degreaser, but it is still sticky. If you press on, you leave a fingerprint, but your finger is not sticky. This may be the problem.

I have a 1994 Mustang convertible and I dress the interior with NXT Gen protectant. I really love the product and I do show the car at local car shows. The problem is that in the past month or so I have noticed that the steering wheel center has become sticky and I can not get the sticky off. Is it the protectant or is the

Do I keep trying stronger degreasers until it comes off?

    Re: Sticky steering wheel

A steering wheel, although often vinyl, is a unique surface because of it's special use. This presents problems that do not occur on any other surface a product like Ultimate Protectant is designed for. The oils from your skin and constant contact with the wheel complicates the matter. Your best bet is to just use something like our Quik Interior Detailer that is just a mild cleaner and will leave next to nothing behind. Even using another vinyl and rubber product like our Natural Shine Protectant would be better for a steering wheel. You will still want to make sure to wipe off any excess product from the surface.

As far as removing the Ultimate Protectant our All Purpose Cleaner would be a good option. If you do not have our APC or cannot find it something like Purple Power should do the trick.

You can also use IPA 50:50 with water to remove what you have on there now. I prefer not to use any type of dressing on the part of the steering wheel where your hands go.
