  • My Meguiars PC getting tired

I have the original Meguiar's labeled PC DA Polisher I purchased so many years ago that I think it was in 2002. It has served me well but it is getting tired. When I apply a touch of pressure, the head stops spinning.

Can this unit be sent in for repair under the unit's lifetime warranty? Or a replacement unit of equal value? I'd rather stick with the same unit to keep the fabulous lifetime warranty . Its the reason I bought it !

    Thank you

If i'm not mistaken, the stock of G100's (lifetime warranty) have been exhausted for quite some time and if you have a problem with your G100, then it will be replaced with the G110v2.

In for the answer! I'm also curious what will happen if something goes wrong with my G100.

The G110 V2 has more power though!

And it won't bog down under pressure. An electronic sensor kicks in and ramps up to keep the pad spinning. It's the reason why I sold my G110 to get it!

Really? So it has a forced rotation now? I didn't know this. I thought that the rotation stops if too much pressure is applied... So I guess it acts like the Flex 3401?

Allow me to quote well respected and highly esteemed MOLer, Kevin Brown (He of the Kevin Brown Method):
The v2 SMOKES all of them.
Let me clarify that statement, because it is a bold one.

I don't mean smoke, as in:
A cute, little, cloud-shaped, whitish puff of floating fuzzball type of smoke.
Not that kind. Not at all.

            I mean SMOKE, as in:
A BELCHING, DARK AS DEATH, EVIL IN SHAPE, BREATHE IT IN THEN PASS OUT BECAUSE IT'S A NITROMETHANE INSTILLED FURIOUS STORM CLOUD type of smoke.

In fact, the G110v2 can equal or surpass the polishing performance of some pretty prominent forced rotation machines.
Does that paint a better picture for you?

In terms of PAD ROTATION, there may be some machines that can outrun the G110v2 on the top end. I own one that did just that. However, top end rotational speed is not the only thing requiring consideration when gauging the performance of a polishing machine. After all, it is RESULTS that count. Anyone that has used various buffing liquids and pads with a random orbital knows that the pad/buffing liquid combination definitely has an effect on backing plate rotation. In fact, some liquids deliver best results regardless the amount of rotation (as long as there is at least some rotation).

The amount of orbits per minute a machine can deliver is not to be overlooked, either. If this all sounds a bit daunting, don't worry. Although there are oodles of factors that change the optimum oscillation/rotation combination, most times it is best to just put the machine to paint, and get to the task of polishing.

It seems apparent that the R&D team spent a lot of time behind the controls of the first generation G110, and implemented some very useful changes.

Area 805 top secret testing begins!

NO. It IS NOT a Forced Rotation machine like the Flex 3401. It uses the same basic principle as the G100 and first-gen G110 when it comes to the mechanical components in the machine, but it has an electronic circuit that adds more power to the motor when it detects the head bogging down.

The only way to have a "forced rotation" DA is if the rotation is gear driven in the fashion that the Flex is designed. That's not to say Kevin Brown is incorrect that the G110v2 has enough power to equal the Flex in terms of performance, but it would be incorrect to equate the two machines as they aren't built around similar mechanical architectures.

As has been stated, we no longer have any of the original G100 tools left so any warranty issues will result in a tool being replaced with a new G110v2.

I dont need a new one or even a better one. I just want this one repaired . Is this an option? Or at the least another tool with lifetime warranty? because I would be downgrading to a 1yr warranty tool with a a lifetime warranty tool.

My G100 is old. I've been polishing cars with it since March of 1995. I have the unit routinely lubed and serviced by my local ACE hardware, an authorized Porter-Cable service site. I've had a few sets of brushes and a couple power cords replaced over the years. It too, is beginning to fade, but you really have to hand it to Porter-Cable for building a machine this tough.

If you want to have your PC looked at drop it off at one of the ACE hardware stores that is a PC service center and get a repair estimate.

If your ready to step into the G110V2 contact Meg's.

When my PC fades again, I'll be calling on Meg's for a replacement, yet, it will be like parting with an old friend when I do.
