Is it safe to say that the lower the gauge the better? If I'm going to err, should I err on an overly thick cord vs. super thin?

There is a "W-8" embossed on the end of the connector plug. It is also printed on the wire itself. May I assume that my extension cord has a gauge of 8?

An 8 gauge is kinda rare unless you are a contractor working with heavy equipment. To make sure, try to estimate the diameter of the your cord thickness and compare it to this Load Carrying Capacities wire gauge chart. However, the most reliable way to determine your cord's gauge is to take it in to your local hardware store and ask them to measure it with the wire gauge wheel.

Wouldn't you have to strip the casing off of the wire itself in order to measure it correctly with that gauge?

            Correct.

The larger the wire, the less resistance to the flow of electricity, and the less chance of heat building up.

Oh my...I better dig through my Receipt File and make sure I actually kept my receipt for my big ADS order which included documentation/POP for this machine...just in case mine ever goes haywire .
It's been great so far, but that whole "receipt" thing concerns me. I better get to searching or ask Rick to print me a new one . Thanks for reminding me!

I recall once using a fairly thin extension cord in conjunction with a hedger and the extension cord actually blew apart, right near the end, where the cord plugged into the machine (maybe about 3 inches away)... just blew into two pieces.

I imagine it was because the cord was to small a gauge?

Wow, I've never heard of that happening before, but one could guess that the small gauge cord had something to do with it.

Exactly ... I think it's time for a series of lawyer jokes.

A man walks into a lawyer's office and asks to see the lawyer. Upon being brought into the lawyer's office, he asks, "how much do you charge for your services?"

"Five hundred dollars to answer three questions," answered the lawyer.

"Isn't that awfully expensive?" asks the man?

"Yes it is, it's very expensive," answers the lawyer. "Now, what's your third question?"

                          Re: Third G110 Dies.

When I was a Bailiff, I walked into court and saw one of our Divorce/Civil attorneys in court with both of his hands in his pockets.....

I said, "look at that! An attorney with his hands in his own pockets!" got a good laugh from him.....

He's dealt with me for the last 15 years, so he can put up with it.

good to know your local attorneys as a Bailiff/Jailer/Cop, get some good advise from them and I learned a lot from them over the years!

edit: Not that I'm bragging and Divorce was not something I wanted to do, however my first marriage was done Pro Per and I had some attorneys present and when I presented my case and orders handed down, I had some attorneys praise my work and some said I did better than attorneys did. I said "hey, you think I just sit here and doodle on post it notes?" I was doodling alright, case laws, civil laws etc!

Huh... speak up, can't hear you.

BTW, could you each provide me with your proper mailing addresses, I need to know where I'm going to serve the libel suit papers. LOL

Come to think of the extension cord story... should've pretended I got shocked, lost my memory and that is why I am in a semi-vegitative state... good product liability suit against the manufacturer (failure to warn against idiotic use).
