  • So what is the REAL deal w/ the 2005 EPA changes..

... does anyone really know yet?

Should I be going out and buying things like #16, NXT Tech, etc before the new regulations hit?

What products will be effected, what won't?

I know the answers may be hard to get, but I know there are a lot of us that are curious to hear.

    Hi Scott,

I don't have a lot of information on this except that I know R&D has been very busy in order for Meguiar's to comply. I know Forrest from Mothers has posted some information on this on Autopia.

yea, I read what forrest wrote, but it still didn't tend to give you an idea of what will and will not cease to exist anymore.

Hopefully you'll be able to inform us in time before this happens so we can stock up

A lot of people have been concerned about the loss of our #16 Professional Paste Wax. At the Autopia Detail Day at Meguiar's, Scottwax asked Barry if this product was going away and Barry said "No".

I haven't heard anything else on the subject. If it is discontinued, there will be whatever stock was produced before January 1 2005 available that is still sitting in warehouses across America.

I have not ordered any for myself yet, but if I hear it's going to be discontinued, I will order myself a case.

I have a new "Kit Promotion" that includes both #26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax and #16 Professional Paste Wax that I hope to post to the forum next week.

There are regulations that are rolling down the pipe in California specifically requiring car care chemicals to become compliant with a list of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In short, it's designed with cleaner air in mind.

California (EPA Region 9) is generally at the forefront of new environmental regulation and is, again, generally looked at as the 'trend setter' for the nation. Further, with this new regulation set to come into play very soon, many of the other EPA regions are already starting to work it into their upcoming VOC regulations and thus, I would expect to see it nationwide more sooner than later.

With this new regulation, you'll see many of the 'bathtub blender' types of companies folding as they simply don't have the money and resources necessary to dedicate to finding more 'environmentally friendly' concoctions. Fortunately for us, Meguiar's has these resources available and, while they are costly and very time consuming, Meguiar's has been very proactive in making sure that they are in-line for this new regulation. Unfortunately, while making sure they're going to be compliant with their products, some deficiencies have been identified and thus, some products will probably have to be let go and dropped. An example of this can be found in the old D-Line (Detailer)...

None the less, rest assured that Meguiar's is working diligently to continue to ensure that the products that they sell will continue to be the best in the world. It's a tradition that they take VERY seriously.

stupid cali and their stupid laws... yah like car care chemicals are gonna emit poisonous fumes... they should go regulate cigarette smoke or some stuff like that... that probably kills the enviornment more than 100 bottles of the old detailer stuff
