Duster cleaning

I have a Meguairs duster (about 6-9 months old) that is getting pretty funky looking, even though it still works OK. Is it safe to take it off the mounting and throw the fabric portion in the washer? Dryer? If so, will it still work as well after it's been cleaned? If there's any chance of causing damage to the washer or dryer, I'll forget the whole idea......so as not to get into BIIIIIG trouble with Mrs Mort

I have the California Duster that got dirty, and it had to be cleaned. Now according to the manufacturer (I dont know how meguiars duster is) they embed it with a paraffin treatment that makes the duster work better the dirtier it gets! At any rate the best way to wash it is by hand with cold water and woolite then let it air dry. However, at times I even took the fabric portion washed by machine with no softener then threw it in the dryer with no fabric sheets and then back on its handle and it worked great! If you are hesitant with either approach a quick call to megs should clear things up.

I have done both ways with my Cali dusters. The machine actually works better. In the sink, I had about a 1/2" of dirt from all of it coming out.

Well, it's been a while, but not hearing an official word I just went ahead and washed it in the machine. Took one of those zippered type ditty bags as I didn't want to chance having the fibers hanging up in the washer (as the Mrs would of hung me if I'd damaged anything) and washed it in cold water with Woolite. Done it a couple of time since this first post and it seems to work just as well as new. I found that if I give it one real light mist of QD it works even better.

Thanks for the update Mort. I will give it a try in the morning.(After the Mrs leaves for work). It will give me more time to clean up if I mess up. lol

I'll give you one tip....wash it by itself if it's been used for any amount of time (as mine was). The funk it stores will discolor anything in the same load (don't ask how I know this).

I have one hanging in the garage that I didn't know what to do with. Seems too dirty to use but I couldn't bring myself to toss it.
