  • microfiber problem...help me

i got a meguiars car care package for christmas and am so happy with it . there is one problem though. the microfiber towl has lost its touch. it has seemed to have faded, hardend, and over lose durability. i got a big new microfiber towl and compared them and it seems that the meguiars one has also lost its softness. its hard to explain, it seems like the threads have stuck together making it hard. can anyone help me.

also sorry i had trouble explaining it

This is probably a dumb question but have you washed it?

If so, how are you washing it?

We go through a ton of these ever week at our Saturday classes and never have any issues like you describe?

Is your dryer really hot? Are you melting these things?

Might want to contact Customer Care at 1-800-347-5700

I think your problem is from 2 things, one: you might be using a soap that is not ment for micro fiber, or two: you might be drying the micro fiber on a heat setting that is too high. Make sure when you wash and dry your micro fiber you select the delicats button, that way your micro fiber will be treated more gently. note: micro fiber cloths have very thin fibers that can melt easy, dry with low heat or no heat.

Totally wrong and totally false info.

There is no such thing as a soap that is dedicated to microfiber, despite what the ads say. No detergent can "know" what it's cleaning, these are just degreasers and very overpriced. Secondly, there is no way you can melt the fibers in a household dryer... melting point of polyester = 500 degrees, hotest dryer is 135.

The problem most people have is that they don't use hot water or proper detergents, and they use too much detergent at that.

Your towels are not delicate, they won't fall apart when you clean them. Wash in hot water on a normal setting using liquid detergent such as Tide, Era, All, and the like. Use about 1/2 what the bottle recommends. Add about a tablespoon of distilled white vinegar to the final rinse (not the wash, the rinse only) this removes escsss detergent. Dry on a high heat setting.

DFTowel, are you sure your information is correct, i have read a few articals that support what i said. Here are some quotes from various sourses: "You can wash microfiber towels in your home washer/dryer with warm water and LOW HEAT" -microfibertech.com " air dry or tumble dry LOW'' do not dry on high heat is the basic message, and as for special detergents your wrong, here is one for example microfibertech.com/micro-restore-detergent-_p_0-61.html and you will find plenty of others.

Just wanted to add my .02

I wash all my microfiber towels in a solution called snappy clean, it is made specifically for pads, but works amazing on microfiber (if you use your microfiber towels to wipe off wax). Pulls all the wax and stuff out and leaves the towels feeling fresh and new. I then just let them air dry. Really easy process and 100% safe on the towels.
BTW the snappy clean stuff is great for cleaning out your pads as well.

                      - use liquid detergent
                      - use about half of detergent recommended
                      - wash on hot
                      - add white vinegar to final rinse
                      - run extra rinse cycle
                      - do not use fabric softener
                      - do not use dryer sheets
                      - dry on medium heat

That is what I do with my towels and I can not tell the difference between the new ones and the older ones.
