Re: Why do Aussies have to pay so much?

All you guys live in distant places from US and aome with high income, one can blame the shipping cost for higer prices but here in mexico is just the same, and also I dont think is the purchasing power (PPI) how much is the average income in mexico 1/10 of the US?

    a few prices

    Gold Class Shampoo 64oz $200.00 pesos (18.57USD) $9.79US price

    Scratch X 7oz $160.00 pesos (14.87USD) $8.69US price

    Quick Clay Detailing S. $220.00 pesos (20.5USD) $10.89US price

Hot Shine Tire Coating $152.00 pesos (14.11USD) $6.49US price

Electric Dual Action Polisher $5228.00 pesos (485.2USD) 225.95US Price

Most of the prices are 100% higher than in US and is not import duties fault, with NAFTA almost every (non agriculture) US made product has 0% import duties.

It looks like someone is having 90% profit margins.

I buy everything online from the US. Even with shipping and taxes, the total is usually less than half of what I would have paid if I bought the same items here in Norway. Same deal on parts for my Audi, it's far cheaper to buy more expensive parts ($100+) in Germany and have them shipped here than buying from the Audi dealership (read: stealership) here in Norway..

this isn't just in AUstralia. this is everywhere but the USA where Meguiars is centered.

i mean NXT Tire Clean cost me 3 bucks in the states.

or the Versa Angle brush was lke 5. here i get them fo 17.

how's that for apples and oranges.

nothing we can do. i'm not going to sit here and complain. i just deal with it.

its the same for why can't i get MILO here or Violet Crumble.?

meguiars isn't the only company this happens to. i think more people need to realize that.

Re: Why do Aussies have to pay so much?

Hi Graeme, I am from Perth

The problem with Australia is that we are only a small economy (ca 20 mio heads) and as such there is not much sales volume to spread your costs. Taxes make only 10% since we have done away with all the other taxes in 2001.

My problem with Meguiar's Australia is that they give a Fiddlers Fart about small operators and the help line gives bad advice (like, remove swirl mark with #66 and a rotary speed of 4500rpm).
For paint correction it is recommended to use #85 or #84 followed by#66. Meguiar's #83 is not available. Half of the Meguiar's product line is not imported into Australia and none of the nice merchandising stuff like caps or jackets or shirts is made available to the public.

Never mind, we battle on in Perth, Western Australia, the most isolated city on the planet.

Re: Why do Aussies have to pay so much?

Without knowing all the in's and out's of exporting and importing, perhaps comparing the price of Meg's to the competitors' products there on the shelf would give you a better idea of what's going on.

I'm a firm believer in the free-market system-- that is the market determines the price... supply and demand. So, the only reason I can see for Meguiar's to charge say $20 for a product is because they couldn't sell it for more.

It's not the sort of product line or market that one company can monopolize.
