  • Makita BO6040 - Has anyone tried this polisher?

    hi guys

In fact I failed to buy the porter cable g100 polisher as they said
that they are unable to send it outside usa.

anyway I've just bought new makita sander polisher model bo6040
    random orbital sander

    toolbarn.com/product/makita/bo6040/

[Commercial links are not allowed on MOL; Thanks, 2hotford]

what do you think about this machine and did nay one tried it
also how you compare this machine with porter cable g100

thank you very much for your help

Re: did any one tried this polisher

The Makita BO6040 is unique among the available options on the market in that is a a Dual Mode Machine. That is with the flip of a dial you can convert this machine from either a dual action polisher to a rotary buffer, or visa-versa, from a rotary buffer to a dual action polisher.

It has a learning curve if you've used other machines before it, but if not than spend some time using this tool on a car that nobody cares about, that is nobody cares if it comes out shiny or not.

Play with the rotary function in a variety of speed settings available and see what feels like the tool is doing its best work. Same for the dual action mode, spend some time running the tool through all of its speed settings for different procedures on a car that nobody cares about and then post what you found out to this thread.

Please read the tread about the makita eating up the pads.
        It happened to me.
You have to protect the 6 inch pads or use the 8 inch.
Very nice machine to work with overall

Here is a tread on the dutch forum

Re: Makita BO6040 - Has anyone tried this polisher?

It is just so easy our Dutch

The thing is, the Velcro has the wrong size.
The machine has a 150 mm side and the pad has a 130 mm side.
So the meguiars pad gets damaged.
I used a old mouse pad to cut a protective ring.
I glued some Velcro on one side, so it stays on one place.
As shown on the first 3 pictures.
I have to search for a more durable solution or switch to an other brand of pads.
I would rather not do that..

Someone mentioned also there is a ring you can put in between to prevent the machine from damaging the pad. It is made by Festool en has a thickness of 15 mm.
I thought the pictures did the talking.

See very easy our Dutch langue.

Re: Makita BO6040 - Has anyone tried this polisher?

              dear allroad,

waw thats great and quick reply my dear friend.

there used to be a nice guy called mr. hans from holand but now
he left the company, I am sure if he is here he will translate for me
              everything..

dont worry mr. allroad about the size of the original pad 150mm
I've already tried another pad from different machine but you must
fix one flat 2mm thick washer at the back of the pad to avoid touching
              the body of the machine.

what I am going to do is either to follow the same idea you did or
will cut the (non original pad) to 130mm to match the meguair's
              foam pad

another salution is to creat a steel adapter which has small thread
at the machine side and big thread like rotary polisher at the other
side to match the mequair's original pad that is not a big deal
i can do it at my machineshop

              all the best

              thanks for your co-operation
              great adventure
