In most situations, it won't be as aggressive as M83, however you have to keep in mind there are many different types of diminishing abrasives and our chemist pick and choose different types for different formulas. M83 and M80 are very different formulas and in some instances, you'll find that different paint systems react very differently to different types of formulas. It's really a case of,

"You don't know what you can do until you try"

Meaning, it's a good idea to have at least a couple of defect removing products on hand to be able to test on different paint systems to see which product is the most effective.

Also as Mike stated earlier, the polishing oils in #80 could mean that the pad is more likely to rotate when pressure is applied, compared to using #83. When the pad is rotating, instead of just oscillating, it has a more aggressive cleaning action, and this could mean a more effective defect removal, even though #80 is supposed to to be less aggressive.

If you were using these products with a rotary, they would have a different feel and effectiveness, because of the forced rotation.

Zet is correct in assuming that these products will work differently with a rotary buffer. These products are a part of our Professional Body Shop line and really were created for use with a rotary machine. The aggressiveness scale on the bottle was designed with the assumption that you are using a high speed rotary as well. The scale will generally give you an accurate idea of how much cleaning ability a product has although that will differ relative to which method of application you are using.

Don't misunderstand me. We have discovered that you can get great results when applying M80 & M83 with a DA so don't hesitate to go for it, but it can yield different results. Ultimately though, I agree with Mike. Every paint and every defect is different. The best preparation is just to have a variety of good tools in your tool box.

I was considering exchanging 83, but I think I'll keep it as another tool. That said, I'm still willing to give #83 another good shot though and I will definitely post up the results.

Also, my Dad's van is hundreds of times shinier and more reflective than before and the swirls are removed.

I love #83 it my fav cleaner,however i use a RB,dont even own a DA. As I have said before GC-paste is my #1 LSP but everyone makes NXT sound better (but is it really) I'll be the judge of that, gonna go and buy some right now. Got a black RS300 just finished sanding for a special customer. (I LOVE MACCO)
